Yes—if you are the host or have administrator rights. Open the Admin Screen with Alt+F10, choose Entity List, open Characters, select your friend, and use the teleport action shown for that character. A normal player should not expect this action to appear without host or admin access.

If you can use spectator mode instead, press F8, fly the camera to your friend’s location, press Ctrl+Space to move your engineer there, then press F6 to return to player control. Leave any seat first if you want to move only your character: a seated ship, rover, bed, chair, or cryo pod can move with you, and an obstructed destination can destroy the occupied grid.

Which teleport method should you use?
Space Engineers has two relevant built-in routes, and they require different permissions. The Admin Screen route targets a player’s listed character directly. The spectator route targets a location you can reach with the free camera and then moves your engineer to that camera position.

A dedicated server is not, by itself, a teleport permission. The owner still has to promote you or perform the teleport. Hosting a world on a dedicated server is optional; it does not replace the in-game access check.

Teleport with the Admin Screen
This is the most direct way to teleport to a friend when you control the world or have been granted administrative rights.
1. Confirm your permission
You must be the multiplayer host or a player promoted to an administrator. On a dedicated server, the owner can assign admin status through Dedicated Server Manager or VRage Remote Client. The exact promotion route depends on how that server is managed, so ask the owner to confirm that your account has been promoted before troubleshooting the key binding.
2. Open the Admin Screen
- Enter the running multiplayer world.
- Press Alt+F10 on the keyboard.
- Wait for the Admin Screen to appear. If nothing opens, verify that you are in the world rather than at the main menu and that your account has host or admin rights.
The Admin Screen is an administration interface, not a normal-player navigation menu. Seeing other admin controls does not mean every player on the server can use them.
3. Open the entity list
- Choose Entity List from the Admin Screen.
- Select Characters so the list is filtered to player characters rather than ships, stations, or other entities.
- Find your friend’s character in the list. Use the displayed player or character name carefully if several people are online.
4. Select the friend and use the teleport action
Select the character, then choose the teleport action available for that entity. The documented procedure identifies the entity-selection and teleport functions, but it does not specify a separate, version-independent button sequence beyond the menu path. Read the action label shown in your current build instead of relying on an old screenshot or a chat-command tutorial.
After the move, verify where your engineer arrived before walking, jetpacking, or entering a cockpit. A teleport can place you near machinery, a hangar opening, terrain, or another grid, so give yourself room to orient safely.

5. If your friend is not listed
- Ask the friend to remain spawned in the world. A disconnected or otherwise unavailable character may not appear as an active target.
- Check that Characters, rather than another entity category, is selected.
- Confirm that you are using the world in which the friend is playing; separate saves and server instances have separate entity lists.
- Have the host verify your promotion. Admin Screen visibility and teleport actions depend on permissions, not merely on being invited to the session.
Teleport through spectator mode
Spectator mode can work when you have access to it but do not want to select a character from the Admin Screen. It is also useful when you need to fly the camera around a large base or asteroid field and identify the friend’s position visually.

Press F8 to switch to free spectator mode according to the keyboard reference. Your camera can now move independently through the world. This is a camera movement mode, not a guarantee that every multiplayer server permits player relocation.
2. Move the camera to your friend
Navigate the spectator camera until it is at the location where you want your engineer to appear. Check the surroundings before committing: look for walls, hangar doors, terrain, moving machinery, and nearby ships. The camera view lets you inspect the destination without first risking your character or a vehicle.
3. Move the engineer to the spectator
Press Ctrl+Space. This moves the player to the spectator camera’s position. The destination is the camera location, so place the camera with enough clearance for the engineer and anything that may be attached to or occupied by the engineer.
4. Return to player control
Press F6 to return to your player. If the view does not immediately look as expected, stop moving and check whether you arrived inside a structure, vehicle, or enclosed room before using jetpack controls.

The seated-grid warning
The spectator route has a specific hazard: if your engineer is seated in a ship, rover, bed, chair, or cryo pod, the occupied grid can teleport with the engineer. If the destination does not have enough room, the grid may be destroyed. Leave the seat before pressing Ctrl+Space when you intend to move only your character.
This warning matters even when the destination appears clear from the camera. A ship’s full bounding area, landing gear, connectors, rotors, or attached subgrids may need more space than the camera position suggests. Move the camera into an open area and dismount before transferring yourself.
What to do when teleport is unavailable
Ask the host or administrator
If Alt+F10 does not open the Admin Screen, or the selected character has no teleport action, assume that your account lacks the required permission until the host confirms otherwise. The practical solutions are for the host to perform the teleport or to promote your account through the server’s administration tools.
Do not treat a dedicated server as automatic permission
A dedicated server changes where the world runs; it does not make every connected player an administrator. The owner must explicitly promote players. Keen’s administration guidance covers promotion on Steam and Xbox dedicated servers, using the server-management tools appropriate to that installation.
Do not confuse built-in controls with /tp
Some community servers advertise a /tp chat command. That syntax belongs to a server-admin script or mod, not to the built-in Admin Screen procedure described here. You do not need that mod for the Alt+F10 → Entity List → Characters route, and a server that has not installed the script should not be expected to recognize the command.

Finding a friend when you only know the location
Players often describe this problem as “put them on your GPS” or “find players in your game.” The documented teleport route does not require you to create a GPS marker: an administrator selects the friend’s character directly from the entity list. The spectator route instead lets you move the camera to the friend’s visible location and then transfer your engineer.
If your goal is simply to meet up rather than relocate instantly, ask the friend to share a location through whatever communication and navigation features your server already uses. The evidence for the teleport procedure establishes the Admin Screen and spectator controls; it does not establish a universal built-in button that automatically adds every player’s position to your personal GPS list.

Keyboard, controller, and platform considerations
The documented shortcuts are keyboard mappings: Alt+F10 for the Admin Screen, F8 for free spectator mode, Ctrl+Space to move the player to the spectator, and F6 to return to the player. The administration guide covers both Steam and Xbox dedicated servers, but the detailed shortcut references available for this procedure are keyboard-based.
Playing on PC
Use the listed keyboard shortcuts unless you have changed them in the controls menu. If a key does not respond, open the in-game Help or key-bindings screen and check whether the binding has been reassigned, conflicts with another action, or requires an alternate keyboard layout.
Playing on Xbox or with a controller
Do not assume that the PC key combinations map to the same controller buttons. Open the current in-game Help or key-bindings screen for your platform and build, and ask the host whether spectator and admin functions are enabled. The exact controller sequence is not established by the keyboard references, so a controller-specific answer should be verified in the live controls menu rather than copied from a PC guide.

Safety checklist before moving yourself
- Stand up first: leave a cockpit, passenger seat, bed, chair, or cryo pod if you do not want its grid moved.
- Choose open space: inspect the destination for walls, terrain, doors, conveyors, turrets, and other grids.
- Check what you are wearing and carrying: make sure you can survive the destination’s environment before committing.
- Warn nearby players: a sudden arrival inside a busy base or docking area can cause collisions or block access.
- Use the camera deliberately: in spectator mode, place the camera where the engineer’s complete body and any intended vehicle will fit.
- Keep the host informed: on a shared server, an administrator can undo confusion more easily when they know which method was used and when.
Troubleshooting by symptom
Alt+F10 does nothing
- Confirm that the world is running and the game window has focus.
- Check the key binding in the current controls menu.
- Ask the host to verify your admin promotion.
- If you are on a dedicated server, have the owner check the account through the server-management tool rather than assuming an invitation granted admin rights.
The friend does not appear under Characters
- Make sure the friend is connected to the same world instance.
- Refresh or reopen the entity list after the friend has spawned.
- Confirm that the category is Characters.
- Ask the friend to remain active while you select the entity.
There is no teleport action
The missing action usually indicates insufficient permission or a difference in the current game build’s menu presentation. Have the host attempt the same selection. If the host can use it and you cannot, request promotion or ask the host to perform the move.
Ctrl+Space moves a ship unexpectedly
You were probably still seated. Return to a safe position, leave the seat, and only then use the spectator transfer if you intend to move your engineer without the vehicle. If the destination was cramped, inspect the area and the grid before attempting another transfer.
You arrive inside an unsafe location
Stop immediately, avoid activating nearby machinery, and move toward open space using the controls appropriate to your environment. If a grid was moved with you, do not attempt another transfer until you have checked for collisions, missing blocks, or damage.
Dedicated servers: what the owner needs to know
A persistent dedicated world can make scheduled meetups easier, but it is not a prerequisite for teleporting. The owner can run the world using the server-management path supported by the platform and then promote trusted players when necessary. Promotion and teleportation are separate decisions: a server can exist without granting players admin controls, and an administrator can teleport a friend in a hosted multiplayer world without asking every player to install a mod.
Before promoting someone, agree on who may use administrative movement and when. Teleporting a character into a protected base, moving a seated ship, or relocating someone during combat can affect other players’ builds and saves. Treat admin access as a world-management permission, not merely a convenience key.

Recommended decision path
- If you are the host or a confirmed administrator, use Alt+F10 → Entity List → Characters, select your friend, and choose the available teleport action.
- If you lack Admin Screen access but can use spectator mode, press F8, position the camera safely, press Ctrl+Space, and press F6.
- If neither route is available, ask the host or server administrator to teleport you or grant the necessary rights.
- If someone suggests
/tp, verify whether the server has a specific script or mod; it is not required for the built-in procedure.
