To toggle camera mode in a Roblox experience, open its in-experience Settings menu and choose Classic or Follow under the camera setting. This works only if the experience developer has not locked the camera mode. On a keyboard, you can also press Shift if Shift Lock Switch is enabled.
Change camera mode in Roblox Settings
- Join the Roblox experience you want to play.
- Open the in-experience menu and select Settings.
- Find the camera setting and choose Classic or Follow.
Roblox documents these options as available when the experience developer has not locked the camera mode. If you cannot find the setting or cannot change it, the experience may restrict the choice. What Classic and Follow do

| Classic | The camera stays in place until you adjust it manually. With a mouse and keyboard, hold the right mouse button and drag to change the viewpoint. |
| Follow | The camera rotates with your avatar as it moves left or right, helping keep your intended targets in view. |
Toggle with Shift Lock Switch
If Shift Lock Switch is enabled, press Shift on your keyboard to toggle between camera modes. This is an optional keyboard shortcut, not a universal control for phones or gamepads. Roblox Support describes the shortcut in its in-experience Settings and Help instructions.
Camera mode is not the same as camera movement or perspective
Choosing Classic or Follow changes how the camera tracks your avatar; it is different from manually rotating the view or selecting first-person perspective. Roblox Creator Hub’s CameraMode reference uses Classic for a third-person camera that can zoom into first person, and LockFirstPerson for a view forced to first person. These are technical perspective settings and should not be confused with the player-facing Classic/Follow movement choice.

Controls for adjusting the camera also depend on the device: Creator Hub documents right-click-and-drag on mouse, tap-and-drag on mobile, the secondary thumbstick on gamepad, and left/right keyboard arrows. Its computer camera movement documentation separately describes CameraToggle, a developer-facing option for switching between locked and free rotation with the right mouse button; it is not the player-facing Shift shortcut.
