Use Marvel’s Comics Release Calendar to watch scheduled releases, and keep a separate issue-by-issue inventory of what you own. Record the series run, issue number, format and—when it matters—the cover variant. Track trades, hardcovers and omnibuses as their own items rather than treating them as single issues you own.
Set up a checklist that distinguishes issues, runs and formats
A series title alone may not identify the issue you mean: Marvel can reuse a title for a later run. Give each item enough detail to distinguish it from similarly named releases.

- Series title: Use the title shown in your catalog or on the issue.
- Year or volume: Record it when listed, especially when a title has multiple runs.
- Issue number: Keep this separate from the volume or collected-edition number.
- Format: For example, single issue, trade paperback, hardcover or omnibus.
- Variant or cover edition: Record the specific cover when you collect variants or want to avoid buying the wrong copy.
- Ownership status: Mark the exact item and format you have, not just the story or series.
A simple record might read: Series title — year/volume — issue number — single issue — cover/variant — owned or missing. For a collected book, make a separate record and add its included issue range when known.

Use Marvel’s calendar for the schedule, not your inventory
Marvel’s official Comics Release Calendar separates new releases, Marvel Unlimited additions and new collections, and displays on-sale dates. Use it to check publisher-scheduled single issues and collected editions. It is a schedule, not a personal ownership list, and a listed date should not be treated as immutable.

- Review the calendar on a regular cadence and note the releases relevant to your series or format.
- Before relying on a date or making a purchase plan, check the calendar again for changes.
- Enter releases you intend to collect in your own checklist, including the run, issue number, format and variant choice if applicable.
Keep the missing-issue list current
Update your inventory as soon as you buy or receive an item. Mark the exact format and cover you acquired; otherwise, a general “owned” mark can conceal that you still need a particular variant or a separate collected edition.
Then review each series against a complete checklist or use a catalog’s missing-issue view. CLZ documents searching by series and issue number, displaying owned status, and hiding owned issues to focus on gaps. Its February 25, 2025 feature update describes the latter: “In the Add Comics by Series screen, you can now hide all issues that you already own, so that you can focus on your missing issues more easily.” Check the current app or service details before choosing a catalog, since this documentation establishes those listed features, not a comparative test of catalog tools.

Record collected editions separately
A trade paperback, hardcover or omnibus is a distinct item from the original single issues, even when it collects the same stories. Track both if you collect both. When contents are available, note which issues the book includes; this lets you distinguish owning a story in a collection from owning every original issue in a run.
Marvel’s calendar has a separate section for new collections, so check it alongside the new-release section if you follow both formats. For books announced or scheduled outside the calendar, record the information you have and verify it against a current publisher or catalog listing before treating it as final.

Choose a digital or paper tracking method
For a digital catalog, check whether it can distinguish series runs and issue numbers, represent variants, show missing issues, and list collected editions separately. Also consider whether you need mobile access, a web interface, offline use or export options; verify those current details directly before settling on a service.
Paper can work just as well for an inventory you maintain consistently. CLZ describes printed Core books that catalog series, issues and variants with checkboxes for marking items by hand. A paper checklist is useful offline, but it will not update itself with new scheduled releases, so use a current release source alongside it.

Reconcile your records instead of trusting an old checklist
Periodically compare your inventory with the publisher calendar and your purchase records. New listings, variants and catalog corrections can change what appears in a release schedule or database; CLZ reports ongoing catalog additions, so its catalog should be treated as maintained rather than frozen. Resolve mismatches before buying: confirm the run, issue, format and cover, then update your own record.
