Trading unlocks 14 days after you start the game. Before confirming, check that both cards are eligible for that specific trade and review the Shinedust cost shown in the app; the available cards and cost can vary.
How to start a trade
- Open Social Hub > Trade and select a friend. You can trade only with friends. The other player must have unlocked trading, and must be accepting incoming trade offers.
- Choose the card you want to offer. If you need to change it after the trade is active, cancel the trade and start again; you cannot swap the card in place. You also cannot change the other player before completion.
- Check that the proposed cards meet the trade requirements. The game’s Detailed trade list shows which cards are currently available for trading.
- Review the Shinedust requirement on the confirmation screen before completing the exchange.
- Complete the trade, or cancel it if you no longer want to proceed.

Which cards can be traded?
Not every card is available for every trade. Pokémon Support gives examples of matching requirements: both cards must be the same rarity; if one card has flair, the other must have flair; and if one has a gold frame, the other must have a gold frame. These examples are not a complete card-by-card eligibility list.

For the current answer on a particular card, go to Social Hub > Trade > ? > Detailed trade list. Check both cards against the list before committing to the offer.

How much Shinedust does a trade cost?
The Shinedust amount varies according to card rarity. The public FAQ does not give a complete, fixed current cost schedule, so use Social Hub > Trade > ? > About trade rules and the trade confirmation screen to see the amount for your proposed exchange.
Language, flair, and expansion choices
When selecting a card, use Edit Card to choose its language or flair. If the card is registered in multiple expansions, use the same option to choose which expansion version to trade. The receiving player can see expansion information through Trade Info. These selections matter when confirming which version of a card is being offered.
Limits on active trades and cancellations
Each player can have only one active trade at a time. Complete or cancel the current trade before starting another. If you cancel, the trade stamina, cards, and items consumed for that trade are restored; stamina can be restored above its usual cap.

Why can’t I trade with my friend?
- Trading is still locked: the feature unlocks 14 days after starting the game.
- One of you already has an active trade: complete or cancel it first.
- Your friend is not accepting incoming offers: they may have suspended incoming trade offers.
- The cards do not meet the requirements: consult the Detailed trade list and check matching rarity, flair, and gold-frame conditions.
- Trade is temporarily suspended: the Trade button may be disabled when many players are trading. Wait and try again. If a trade expires during a suspension, it will not complete, and the cards and items involved are returned.
Other useful trade limits
- The wishlist can contain up to 40 cards. You can choose up to three wishlisted cards to display; if you choose none, the three most recently wishlisted cards display automatically on Trade and Share screens.
- Trade history shows the 30 most recent trades from the last 90 days.
These limits and the 14-day unlock are stated in Pokémon Support’s FAQ updated September 8, 2026. A July 2025 Pokémon Forums announcement described the removal of trade tokens and card consumption for trades at that time; for current eligibility and costs, rely on the in-game screens and current support FAQ.
Pocket trades are not physical-card trades
These steps apply to digital cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket. Pokémon Support distinguishes Pocket’s trading feature from the rules and practices of the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game; physical-card trading rules do not determine which Pocket cards can be exchanged.
