The process is manual: streamed and downloaded saves do not transfer automatically.
Transfer a streamed save to your downloaded PS5 game
You need PlayStation Plus cloud storage and the same PlayStation account associated with the save. Sony’s menu labels may vary slightly by region or software version; the steps below follow its support instructions.

- While streaming the game on PS5, press the PS button.
- Select the PlayStation Plus card in Control Center.
- Choose Manage Saved Data and follow the on-screen instructions to copy the streamed save to cloud storage.
- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
- Select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), matching the game and save type.
- Choose Download or Delete from Cloud Storage, then select Download to console storage.
- Select the save file and choose Download.
Sony’s dedicated transfer example gives the downloaded-game route under Saved Data (PS4). Its broader cloud-storage guide covers both PS4 and PS5 save categories, so choose the category that matches your title rather than assuming every game uses the same one. Why the transfer uses cloud storage
A streamed game’s save is in Game Streaming Storage, while a downloaded game uses console storage. PlayStation Plus cloud storage acts as the bridge: first copy the save from streaming storage to the cloud, then download it to the PS5. Sony states that the saves are not transferred automatically.

PlayStation Plus membership is required for cloud storage. PS5 cloud streaming itself requires PlayStation Plus Premium on Sony’s US service page; streaming eligibility and membership tiers can vary by region. Check Sony’s US cloud-streaming page for those service details.
If the save does not appear in the downloaded game
- Check the save category. Look under both Saved Data (PS5) and Saved Data (PS4) as appropriate for the game and save type.
- Confirm the cloud copy completed. The initial copy from Game Streaming Storage to cloud storage is a separate step from downloading the save to the console.
- Use the same PlayStation account. Verify that you streamed the game and are playing the downloaded version under the account that holds the save.
- Check game and edition compatibility. Sony’s general instructions do not guarantee that every streamed title has a downloadable counterpart or that saves work across all versions and editions. Consult the game’s own support information if the save is missing after the transfer.
USB drives and automatic sync
A USB drive is not a workaround for PS5 game saves. Sony’s storage guide says PS5 saved data can use cloud storage but not USB; PS4 saves can also be copied to USB. USB extended storage and an M.2 SSD store game data, not PS5 saves. See Sony’s PS5 storage guide.

Automatic cloud sync is separate from the streamed-to-downloaded transfer. Depending on the save type and settings, PS5 saves can sync when a game closes or the console enters rest mode if automatic updates and the game’s sync setting are enabled. PS4 saves use auto-upload; a save uploaded to cloud storage still needs to be manually downloaded to PS5 console storage for the downloaded game.

Moving saves with the PlayStation PC app
For supported streamed games, Sony also documents a PC-app route between Game Streaming Storage and online storage: select the game, open its save-management menu, press the PS button, and choose Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in Game Streaming Storage > Copy to Online Storage. To retrieve a save into streaming storage, choose Saved Data in Online Storage > Copy to Game Streaming Storage. These PC steps move saves between online storage and Game Streaming Storage; they do not download a save to PS5 console storage.
