How to Transfer Items Between Characters in New World

A trusted player can relay eligible items between characters through secure trades. Dropping items is not safe, and a server transfer moves the same character—not its belongings to another one.

For eligible items, the practical option is to have a trusted player relay them: trade the items from Character A to that player, switch characters, then trade them to Character B. This is an inference from New World’s secure player-to-player trade system, not an officially documented same-account transfer feature. Check that each item is tradable before handing it over, and do not drop items on the ground.

Use a trusted player to relay eligible items

The intermediary temporarily holds the items while you switch characters. Because the handoff depends on another player, use someone you trust and confirm both characters can meet them under the game’s current world and platform constraints.

  1. Check the items. Review each item’s in-game description and confirm it can be traded. Binding restrictions may prevent a handoff, and current official sources do not provide a complete item-by-item tradeability list.
  2. Arrange a trusted intermediary. Agree on a player who can access both characters in the relevant world and platform context.
  3. Trade from Character A. Use the secure player-to-player trade interface to give the eligible items to the intermediary.
  4. Switch characters and trade again. Log out, enter Character B, and arrange a second secure trade to receive the items.

This is a practical workaround based on the secure trade system, not an official same-account procedure. Amazon Games’ 2021 release notes recommend secure player-to-player trading for trades instead of dropping items: Explore with player titles (release notes).

Do not drop items or count on buying your own Trading Post listing

Dropping items is not a handoff

New World’s official 2021 release notes say dropped items are visible only to the player who dropped them and disappear after three minutes. Another character therefore cannot collect them. Use secure trading instead: Amazon Games release notes.

The Trading Post does not provide a reliable self-transfer

Amazon Games’ October 19, 2021 update says an error appears when players try to buy their own items in the Trading Post. Community reports describe workarounds, but they do not make self-purchase a dependable method: New World Update 1.0.3: Server Transfer Details.

Know what kind of transfer you mean

Option What moves Important limitation
Trusted intermediary trade Eligible tradable items Requires a trusted player; item eligibility must be checked in-game.
Trading Post Listed items, if a purchase succeeds Official notes document an error when buying your own listing.
Character server transfer The same character, including its inventory and storage Moves the character to another eligible world; it does not give those belongings to a different character.
Dropping items No usable handoff to another character Only the dropper can see the items; they disappear after three minutes.

Moving a character and its belongings to another world

If by “transfer” you mean relocating a character, New World Support says an eligible same-region server transfer carries the character’s progression, faction progress, inventory and storage, currency, quest progress, houses, and decorations. It moves that character rather than sharing its belongings with a second character. Transfers between regions are not supported, full worlds and worlds in maintenance are excluded, and a same-region transfer triggers a 30-day cooldown. The transfer is irreversible under the support instructions.

  1. Log in to the character you want to move and stand in a sanctuary.
  2. Leave the Company and remove active Trading Post buy and sell orders.
  3. Open the in-game Character Transfer tab, choose an eligible destination, and confirm the move.

Check the current server status page and the in-game transfer screen before making plans: world availability can change, and the status page lists categories such as Full and Character transfer unavailable. When accessed October 8, 2026, it showed a last update of October 7, 2026. Full requirements and restrictions are on New World Support: Server Transfers.

Platform and account limits

New World: Aeternum does not support cross-progression between platforms, according to Amazon Games’ 2024 Q&A. A character created on one platform cannot be moved to another platform as a way to share its contents. See New World: Aeternum Community Q&A and Road to New World: Aeternum – Servers.

Official sources cited here do not establish whether the current build has account-wide shared storage or direct character-to-character delivery. Do not assume either feature is available; check the current in-game options. Likewise, trade restrictions can vary by item, so verify each item rather than assuming everything can be moved.
