You can transfer Pokémon to Pokémon HOME from the Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version rereleases for Nintendo Switch, with the connection announced to begin in October 2026. The announced route is for the Switch games—not original Game Boy Advance cartridges. Nintendo has not yet published the exact release date or transfer steps in the information available, so check the game’s current notices and Pokémon’s official guidance before moving anything.

First, identify which version you have

The transfer announcement applies to the standalone digital releases of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo says they will work on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and that they will not have physical editions. Nintendo Switch Online membership is not required to purchase or play them. Nintendo Support FAQ

  • Switch rerelease: An outgoing connection to Pokémon HOME is planned to begin in October 2026.
  • Original GBA cartridge: It does not connect directly to Pokémon HOME. The documented historical route starts by migrating Pokémon to a compatible Nintendo DS game.

How to transfer from the Switch rereleases to HOME

Nintendo confirms that players will be able to transfer Pokémon from the Switch versions to Pokémon HOME. The Pokémon Company announced an October 2026 start, but the exact date, in-game menus, steps, and any restrictions have not been established in the official information cited here.

  1. Make sure you are playing the Nintendo Switch rerelease, not a GBA cartridge.
  2. Check the game’s current in-game notices and Pokémon’s official guidance for availability and the instructions specific to this connection.
  3. Review the Pokémon and destination details shown in the game before confirming a move. The published information confirms transfer to HOME but does not establish whether a Pokémon can be moved back into the Switch game.

Do not assume this works like a different Pokémon HOME connection: the available official guidance does not yet specify whether the new link requires a HOME Premium plan.

Can an original FireRed or LeafGreen cartridge transfer Pokémon to HOME?

Not directly, based on Nintendo’s documented compatibility information. The historical route begins with Pal Park in Pokémon Platinum: Nintendo’s manual says players can migrate Pokémon from GBA-series games, including FireRed and LeafGreen, after obtaining the National Pokédex. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual

That is only the first leg of a multi-generation chain, not a direct cartridge-to-HOME method. Nintendo’s current compatibility information names Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, and Pokémon White 2 as Poké Transporter inputs; it does not list FireRed or LeafGreen as direct Poké Transporter sources. The Bank-to-HOME process is separate from the new Switch rerelease connection. Nintendo’s Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter FAQ

Do not confuse the new Switch link with Pokémon Bank

Pokémon Bank is a separate 3DS service and a route for eligible Pokémon already stored there to move to HOME. Nintendo says Bank-to-HOME transfers require HOME Premium, and its instructions use a Moving Key that expires after three minutes. Pokémon moved from Bank cannot be returned to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS games. Those rules describe Bank transfers; they do not establish whether Pokémon can return from HOME to the Switch rereleases. Pokémon Support: moving Pokémon from Bank to HOME

Nintendo says Pokémon Bank service and transfers from Bank to HOME will end on Thursday, February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Bank is no longer available for download. If you already have access to Bank and eligible Pokémon stored there, Nintendo advises moving them before service ends. Nintendo’s Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter FAQ

Do you need Pokémon HOME Premium?

The available official material does not say whether Premium will be required for the Switch rerelease connection. Premium is required for transfers from Pokémon Bank to HOME, but that requirement should not be assumed to apply to the newly announced link.

Pokémon HOME’s current U.S. Nintendo eShop listing gives Premium prices of $2.99 for one month, $4.99 for three months, and $15.99 for twelve months, excluding tax; prices may change. It lists capacity for 6,000 deposited Pokémon with Premium and 30 with the Basic Plan. These are HOME service details, not confirmation of the Switch rereleases’ requirements.
