How to Trigger Astarion’s Mirror Scene in Baldur’s Gate 3

Astarion has two Act One scenes involving mirrors. The named camp event requires that you know he is a vampire; the hand-mirror conversation has no documented precise trigger formula.

There are two different Act One scenes players call Astarion’s mirror scene. To trigger the camp event specifically listed as Astarion’s mirror, make sure Astarion’s vampirism has been revealed to your character. The separate hand-mirror conversation also happens in Act One, but its reference does not give a precise trigger threshold or mandatory dialogue sequence.

Which Astarion mirror scene do you mean?

The distinction matters because only one of the two scenes has a documented trigger condition.

  • “Astarion’s mirror” camp event: A romance-related Act One camp event in which he holds a mirror and laments that he can no longer see his face. You can tell him what you see or think of him. Its listed requirement is that you know he is a vampire. BG3 Wiki’s camp-event reference does not give an approval cutoff or a fixed number of rests.
  • Hand-mirror conversation: In another Act One interaction, Astarion looks into a hand mirror, cannot see his reflection, and asks you to describe his face. You can “be his mirror” and respond when he prompts you to call him beautiful. The BG3 Wiki romance reference notes approval for calling him beautiful and for jokingly complimenting other companions, but does not document a complete trigger recipe.

How to meet the condition for the camp event

First, learn that Astarion is a vampire. One route is the bite scene at camp. If that scene has not happened, the BG3 Wiki’s Pale Elf quest reference describes an alternate reveal through dialogue after progressing to the Underdark or Rosymorn Monastery Trail. Once his nature is revealed, you can continue talking with him about his condition and past.

  1. Progress through Act One until Astarion’s vampirism is revealed, either through the camp bite scene or the later dialogue route.
  2. Continue taking Long Rests as you progress. The event is a camp scene, but its listing does not specify a rest count or guarantee when it will appear in your save.
  3. When the named “Astarion’s mirror” camp event occurs, choose how you want to respond to his reflection and appearance.

What is not established about the trigger

The available event listing does not say that a particular approval score, exact rest number, discovery of the boar, or romance status is required for the named mirror event. Those details should not be treated as mandatory trigger steps.

The hand-mirror conversation is also an Act One scene, but its reference does not give an exact threshold or fixed dialogue path. If that is the moment you are seeking, the most accurate guidance is to continue Act One and engage with Astarion’s conversations rather than rely on an unverified approval or rest-count formula.

Do not confuse the mirror scenes with romance or scar scenes

Astarion’s offer to spend the night is a separate romance development. The subsequent romance scene includes a morning view of his scarred back. Another Long Rest scene, in which he feels his back and tries to decipher his scars, has its own approval and timing context. Neither is the hand-mirror conversation or the camp event titled “Astarion’s mirror.”

Why Long Rest timing can be unpredictable

Camp scenes may compete for opportunities to play, so a particular event’s timing can vary as you progress. Larian’s Patch 5 notes documented historical fixes involving the bite scene occurring even when the player already knew Astarion was a vampire spawn, and a romance scene triggering across two consecutive Long Rests in certain conditions. Those version-specific fixes are useful context, not a current guarantee for when a mirror event will queue in an individual save.
