There is no verified End of Abyss-specific Steam Deck crash fix established by the available official information. Start with basic SteamOS stability checks, then isolate whether the problem is the game, its launcher, or the Deck. Treat Proton changes as a test—not a confirmed remedy.
What is known about End of Abyss on Steam Deck
The official Epic Games Store listing identifies Section 9 Interactive as the developer, Epic Games Publishing as the publisher, and Windows as the platform. It does not document SteamOS support or a Steam Deck compatibility rating. Its PC requirements are for Windows and do not guarantee that the game will run on a Deck.
No game-specific crash trigger, developer-confirmed fix, or verified Deck settings are established here. Avoid treating any particular graphics preset, launch command, Proton build, or cache-clearing procedure as a known solution.
Work through these checks one at a time
- Identify the failure pattern. Note whether the game crashes on launch, at the same scene, only after a longer session, or alongside other games. Record how you installed and launched it, the SteamOS channel, and the Proton version if one is in use. This helps distinguish a game-only failure from a broader Deck stability issue; it does not identify a known End of Abyss bug.
- Update SteamOS and restart. Install any available SteamOS software update, restart the Deck, then retry the game before changing other settings. Valve lists updates and a restart among its initial stability checks in the Steam Deck – Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide.
- Temporarily disable third-party applications. Exit or disable applications installed through Desktop Mode, then retest. If the crash stops, turn them back on one at a time to see whether the behavior returns. Valve includes third-party applications in its general troubleshooting guidance.
- Confirm which launcher and compatibility path you are using. The official listing is for an Epic Games Store Windows release. Steam’s per-game Deck Verified and Proton instructions apply to Steam apps; following them does not automatically configure the Epic launcher.
- If you added the game to Steam, test Proton only if a compatibility tool is available. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, choose Compatibility, enable the option to force a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, and try the latest Proton version available. Retest, then revert the setting if it makes matters worse. Change one variable at a time. Valve’s guide says to try the latest Proton for Steam apps; this is a general diagnostic step, not a confirmed End of Abyss fix. Valve also warns that forcing Proton can make Steam download the Windows version if only a Linux version is installed.
- Escalate according to the scope of the failure. If the Deck freezes or crashes across multiple games, or the problem persists after updates and a restart, contact Steam Support. For a reproducible failure limited to End of Abyss, report the steps that trigger it and any relevant logs through the publisher’s current support route.
How to make each retest useful
Keep a short record of the crash trigger, launcher, SteamOS channel, Proton version if applicable, and whether other games fail. Compare one change at a time: before versus after the update and restart, third-party applications enabled versus disabled, or default versus latest Proton when Steam compatibility settings are actually in use. If several settings change together, it becomes difficult to tell which one affected the result.

Published PC requirements do not resolve Deck compatibility. Epic lists minimum Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, 8 GB memory, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380. The recommended tier lists Windows 11, an Intel Core i7-11700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB memory, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 6650 XT, or Intel Arc A750. Both tiers specify DirectX 12 and 5.29 GB of SSD space. These are Windows PC specifications, not evidence of Steam Deck performance or stability.
