A third-party guide last updated February 15, 2023, lists possible fixes, but they are unverified and do not establish what DP-05 means.
What does Fortnite error DP-05 mean?
Epic’s available support pages do not explain DP-05 or confirm that it points to a particular game, Windows, hardware, or network fault. There is no established DP-05 incidence rate, operating-system pattern, or success rate for any proposed fix.
A third-party guide updated February 15, 2023, says the error may occur during play and suggests restarting Fortnite or the PC, checking server status, running the launcher as administrator, power-cycling a Wi-Fi router, changing the character skin, or reinstalling the game. What to do first
- Record the circumstances. Save the full error text or a screenshot, and note whether DP-05 appears at launch, during a match, or while joining another player. The reported in-game timing comes from the third-party guide; Epic has not confirmed it.

- Check Fortnite’s official server status. This is a quick, reversible check before changing files or system settings. Epic recommends checking status in guidance for ESP errors; that advice does not mean DP-05 is an ESP error. Epic Games: ESP errors
- Restart Fortnite and the PC. This is a low-effort check also suggested by the third-party DP-05 guide, but Epic has not confirmed it as a code-specific fix.
Try Epic’s general Fortnite PC troubleshooting steps
Epic’s sequence is general Windows PC guidance, not a confirmed DP-05 remedy. Follow it from less disruptive software checks toward more substantial changes. If the error appears without a clear error message, Epic’s article also recommends checking that the PC meets Fortnite’s requirements.

Verify Fortnite’s files and clear the launcher cache
Use Epic’s instructions to verify the game files, then clear the Epic Games Launcher cache. These steps target the game installation and launcher without immediately removing Fortnite. Follow the current instructions in Epic’s Fortnite PC troubleshooting guide.
Check graphics drivers and DirectX
Update the graphics driver. If Fortnite is currently using DirectX 12, Epic suggests trying DirectX 11. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affects the error, and use Epic’s guide for the applicable steps.

Run the Epic Games Launcher as administrator
Epic includes running the launcher as administrator among its general troubleshooting options. This is also suggested by the third-party DP-05 guide, but neither source establishes that administrator permissions are the cause of DP-05.
Use later-stage checks only if needed
If the earlier checks do not help, Epic’s general sequence includes reinstalling the launcher or Fortnite, reviewing security exclusions, trying another drive, performing a clean boot, checking the drive, and contacting the hardware manufacturer. Should you change your router or reinstall Fortnite?
Do not assume DP-05 is a network error. Epic’s advice to restart a modem or router, disable a VPN or proxy, or test another connection is written for ESP errors, which Epic describes as usually connection-related. That guidance does not establish that DP-05 has the same cause. Epic Games: ESP errors
The third-party DP-05 guide also suggests power-cycling a router and reinstalling the game, but those suggestions have not been confirmed by Epic for this code. Epic places reinstalling among later general troubleshooting steps, after checks such as verifying files and clearing the launcher cache. There is no code-specific evidence here to justify buying networking equipment or other hardware.

When to contact support
If the code persists after reasonable general troubleshooting, contact Epic Games Support and include the exact message, when it appears, your Windows version, and the steps you have tried. For signs of a broader device or hardware problem, Epic’s PC guidance points users to the hardware manufacturer. Microsoft’s general guidance notes that unexpected Windows restarts can involve hardware, drivers, or software, but it does not connect those causes to Fortnite DP-05.
