Start with the symptom: fix a website problem in your browser, use reinstall troubleshooting for an app fault, or recover your password through account recovery. Roblox’s documented full settings reset for Mac deletes Roblox preference files and recreates them, so it resets those preferences.
Choose the fix that matches what is wrong
“Reset Roblox” can mean several different things. The least disruptive useful step depends on whether the problem is a specific setting, the Roblox website, the installed app, or account access.

Can you reset Roblox without resetting settings?
Not as a general, documented full reset. Roblox Support’s Mac instructions explicitly call deleting settings files a way to “fully reset” Roblox settings. The instructions say Player or Studio reinstalls those files when launched, which means the preferences are reset rather than preserved. The page does not identify a selective preference file that resets Roblox while retaining every other setting.

Roblox also documents reinstalling as a possible fix for some technical problems, but does not promise that reinstalling preserves all local preferences. Treat reinstalling as app troubleshooting, not as a settings-preserving reset.

If one Roblox setting is wrong
If you only want to undo a particular change, look for that option’s own control in the game, Player, or Studio instead of removing preference files or reinstalling. The official guidance covered here does not provide a universal “reset one thing but keep everything else” procedure. If the setting belongs to a specific game, its controls may be separate from Roblox Player or Studio preferences.
If the Roblox website is the problem
When the issue is limited to roblox.com—for example, a display, loading, or sign-in problem—start with the browser guidance in General Website Issues. Roblox recommends clearing temporary internet files and cookies and trying remedies one at a time. This addresses browser website data; Roblox does not describe it as a reset of Player or Studio settings. Because cookies can hold web sign-in state, you may need to sign in again afterward.

If the installed app is malfunctioning
- Restart the computer first. Roblox recommends restarting before reinstalling in its reinstallation instructions.
- If the technical problem remains, use the instructions for your operating system. Roblox’s page covers reinstalling on Windows and Mac. It says that on Windows, reinstalling should replace deleted or broken files, and advises closing other programs during the process.
- Uninstall only if needed. Roblox says uninstalling is not always necessary, though it may be needed if reinstalling does not work. The instructions do not guarantee that all preferences will survive either step.
Specific error articles can call for different remedies. For example, Roblox’s Error Code 403 guidance describes clearing app data for that error and says it restores the app to default settings. That is a destructive, error-specific step—not a routine way to troubleshoot Roblox while preserving settings. The Error Code 266 article likewise addresses a connection timeout and includes platform-specific troubleshooting. Follow guidance for the actual error rather than applying a data-clearing step as a general reset.
If you deliberately want to reset Roblox settings on Mac
Roblox’s Mac: Troubleshooting page documents removing Roblox settings files from Library > Preferences. It says to delete all Roblox com files and explains that Player or Studio will reinstall them when launched. This resets those settings; it is the opposite of keeping them.

The instructions are Mac-specific. They do not name a particular preference file or describe a selective reset that preserves the rest of your Roblox preferences. Do not apply this file-removal procedure if your goal is to keep your existing settings.
If “reset Roblox” means resetting your password
A password change or recovery is an account operation, not an app reset. If you can sign in and know your current password, Roblox’s password-change instructions say to open account Settings, choose Account Info, and select Change Password. The current password is required.

If you cannot sign in, use I Forgot My Password. Roblox says recovery can use the email address or phone number attached to the account. If neither option is available, contact Customer Support; Roblox says it must verify account ownership before resetting an account or changing its information.
Protect your account while troubleshooting
Do not share your password, cookies, 2-step verification codes, or backup codes. Roblox’s Keep Your Account Safe guidance warns against sharing them. Legitimate troubleshooting or recovery does not require you to give those secrets to another player or an unofficial helper.
