In Roblox Studio, turn off the snapping control for the tool you are using—Move, Scale, or Rotate—or hold Shift while dragging for a temporary free-form adjustment. If something still snaps, it may be a separate pivot, terrain, or nearby-part setting rather than the transform grid.
Turn off Move, Scale, or Rotate snapping
Studio’s transform tools use increments: studs for moving and scaling, and degrees for rotation. Select the relevant tool, then disable its snapping control in the Studio toolbar. The exact toolbar appearance may change, so use the control associated with the active transform tool. Roblox Creator Hub’s Parts documentation describes these controls.
For a single adjustment, hold Shift while dragging with a transform tool. This temporarily toggles snapping, so you can make a free-form change without changing the increment you normally use.
To edit an increment rather than switch snapping off, Roblox documents Shift+2 for opening the Move/Scale increment input and Alt+R on Windows or Option+R on Mac for the Rotate increment input. These shortcuts open the increment input; they are not the temporary Shift-drag toggle.

If the pivot point is snapping
Pivot hotspot snapping is separate from Move, Scale, and Rotate increments. When using Edit Pivot, click and hold the small corner arrow on the Pivot button in the Model tab, then turn off Snap. This setting affects pivot alignment to geometry hotspots such as corners, edges, or centers. See Roblox Creator Hub’s Pivot tools documentation.
If terrain selection, rotation, or brushes are snapping
Terrain editing has multiple snapping controls. Match the setting to what is happening:

- Terrain-region rotation: disable rotation snapping in the Studio toolbar for free-form rotation.
- Region selection or transform bounds: turn off Snap to Voxels if the selection bounds are aligning to voxel boundaries.
- Terrain brushes: check the brush’s own Snapping option for tools such as Draw, Smooth, Paint, and Flatten. Roblox documents this as off or nearest voxel.

Why a part may still snap to nearby geometry
Dragging a part by its pivot can produce a soft snap to nearby surfaces or edges. That is geometry alignment, not the same as snapping movement to a grid increment, so disabling the grid control may not remove it. When to keep snapping enabled
Some kits rely on fixed increments for alignment. For example, Roblox Creator Hub’s Modern City modular-kit instructions specify Move snapping at 7.5 studs and Rotate snapping at 45 degrees, with collisions disabled. Those values belong to that example workflow, not to Roblox Studio generally. If you are following a kit’s instructions, use its specified alignment settings; for unrestricted placement, disable the relevant snapping control. See Assemble modular environments.
