In Minecraft: Java Edition, press F1 to hide the HUD and press it again to restore it. In Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, open Pause → Settings → Video and turn on Hide HUD. Bedrock players with cheats enabled can also use the /hud command for the whole HUD or individual elements.
Turn off the HUD in Minecraft Java Edition
- Press F1 while playing.
- The HUD disappears, including the hotbar, crosshair, health, hunger, armor, and other built-in interface elements.
- Press F1 again to restore it.
Mojang lists this Java shortcut as “Toggles HUD.” It does not pause the game, open a menu, or permanently change a graphics setting. It simply switches the HUD off or on. See the official Java Edition hotkey reference.

Taking a screenshot without the HUD
For a clean Java Edition screenshot, press F1 to hide the interface, then press F2 to capture the image. Mojang notes that customized keybinds can change which keys perform these actions. Its Java screenshot guide explains the workflow.
If F1 does not work
On many laptops and compact keyboards, the function keys are assigned to system controls such as brightness or volume. Try Fn + F1, or enable your keyboard’s Fn Lock so Minecraft receives the F1 input.

If the key was remapped, open Pause menu → Options → Controls, find the HUD-toggle action, and assign another key. If a mod, client, recording tool, FPS counter, Discord, Xbox Game Bar, or other overlay remains visible, disable that overlay separately; Java’s F1 shortcut only hides Minecraft’s built-in HUD.
Turn off the HUD in Minecraft Bedrock Edition
- Open the Pause menu.
- Select Settings.
- Open Video.
- Enable Hide HUD.
To show the interface again, return to Settings → Video and turn Hide HUD off. The surrounding menu layout can differ between Windows, consoles, and mobile devices, but the documented setting is called Hide HUD.

Use the Bedrock /hud command
Bedrock Edition also supports the following syntax:
/hud <target: target> <visible: hudvisibility> [hud_element: hudelement]The command requires cheats and is documented with a Game Directors permission level. It changes HUD visibility for the selected player or players.

Hide or restore the entire HUD
To hide the complete HUD for yourself, enter:
/hud @s hide allHere, @s means the command executor, hide is the visibility state, and all selects the complete HUD.
To restore it, enter:
/hud @s reset allreset returns the selected HUD element to its default visibility state. Refer to Microsoft’s Bedrock HUD command reference for the current syntax.

Hide only selected HUD elements
Instead of removing everything, you can target individual elements. Supported elements include the hotbar, crosshair, health, hunger, armor, air bubbles, horse health, progress bar, status effects, tooltips, item text, paperdoll, and touch controls.
For example, to hide item names or item text:
/hud @s hide item_textThe available elements and command behavior can vary with the current Bedrock command implementation, so use Microsoft’s full /hud documentation when building a more specific setup.

Do not assume that F1 is the universal HUD shortcut across Minecraft platforms. Mojang’s F1 reference applies specifically to Java Edition; Bedrock’s documented control is the Hide HUD setting, with /hud available as the command-based alternative.
