Roblox has two controls people may mean by “camera toggle”: Shift Lock, which changes the in-game camera mode, and camera input for avatar animation, which uses your device camera to animate your avatar. They are separate features with different steps and requirements.
Choose the camera feature you mean

Turn on Shift Lock to toggle camera modes
- Join the Roblox experience and open the in-experience menu.
- Select Settings.
- Find Shift Lock Switch and enable it, if the option is available.
- Press Shift on your keyboard to switch camera modes.
Roblox describes Classic as a mode where the camera stays fixed unless you adjust it manually. With a mouse, hold the right mouse button and drag to change the view. In Follow mode, the camera rotates with your avatar as it moves left or right. For the controls on your device, open the in-experience Help menu; keyboard shortcuts, mouse controls and mobile gestures may differ. Roblox’s camera-mode and control guidance
If Shift Lock is missing or does not work
An experience developer can lock the camera mode. If that is the case, Shift Lock Switch may be unavailable or you may not be able to change modes. This is an experience setting, not the device-camera feature described below. Roblox Support
Turn on your device camera for avatar animation
- Check the experience. Open its details page and look in the About section, under Communication, for camera support.
- Join the experience and allow camera access. Accept the device or operating-system permission prompt for Roblox. If you previously denied access, enable the camera permission for Roblox in your device settings.
- Turn on camera input in the experience. Use the available in-experience controls. Roblox says camera and microphone inputs start off and can be enabled independently.
If you have more than one camera attached, open the Roblox in-experience menu, select Settings, scroll to Video Camera, and choose the camera you want. Roblox also documents turning the camera off from the Roblox menu. Roblox Support: Animate Your Avatar

When camera animation is unavailable
- The experience may not support camera-based avatar animation.
- Roblox disables the device-camera feature on some devices that cannot support it, including Android devices with 3 GB of RAM or less.
- If the feature is supported but Roblox cannot access the camera, check the app permission in your device’s operating-system settings.
Roblox’s support guidance does not provide one universal, platform-by-platform sequence for enabling camera input; use the controls shown in the experience on your device.
