To turn on Roblox Voice Chat, you must be at least 13 and complete an age check using ID verification or Facial Age Estimation. Then join an experience that supports voice and connect with its headphone icon or Voice Chat setting. Voice Chat is not enabled by default, and phone verification does not unlock it.
What you need before enabling Roblox Voice Chat
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- You must complete an age check. Roblox lists ID verification and Facial Age Estimation; which options you see can depend on your account and region.
- You need to join an experience where the developer has enabled Voice Chat. The feature is not available in every experience.

How to turn on Voice Chat
- Complete Roblox’s age check. Follow the ID verification or Facial Age Estimation option offered for your account. The available method may vary; do not use another person’s identity or enter a false age.
- Open a voice-enabled experience. Developers choose whether their experience supports Voice Chat, so a missing voice control may simply mean that the current experience does not offer it.
- Connect to voice. Select the headphone icon or open the experience’s settings and choose its Voice Chat control. On PlayStation, Roblox directs players to connect through the in-experience settings.
- Check your microphone state. Use the microphone control to mute or unmute. A red slash means the microphone is muted. Roblox says a red dot on the microphone indicates that it is recording audio. To leave voice, disconnect through the in-experience settings.
Roblox lists desktop, mobile, VR, PlayStation, and Xbox among platforms that support Voice Chat. Console-specific instructions are available for Xbox and PlayStation. The setup route and control placement can differ by platform.
Why the Voice Chat option may be missing
The account has not completed an age check
Check Roblox’s account settings for the age-check flow. Voice access requires age checking, and phone verification alone does not meet that requirement. Roblox’s communication guidance says age-checked users communicate with users in similar age groups; see How to chat on Roblox.

The experience does not support voice
Try an experience that explicitly supports Voice Chat. A voice option can be absent from one experience while being available in another.
The feature or verification method is unavailable for your account or region
Roblox says Voice Chat may not be available in every region, and age-check methods are not offered to all accounts or in all regions. If you have completed an age check but cannot find a control in a voice-enabled experience, availability may be the reason.

You are looking in the wrong place for your platform
Look for the headphone icon or the in-experience Voice Chat setting. PlayStation players connect from the experience’s settings. For platform-specific details, consult Roblox’s support pages for Xbox or PlayStation.

Use your own accurate account information and follow Roblox’s rules. Roblox says violations can lead to voice restrictions or other account moderation. A microphone is needed to speak, but Roblox’s setup instructions do not require buying a particular headset or microphone.
