On a PS5 Pro, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality and change the toggle. PSSR is available only on PS5 Pro, and the setting applies to supported games rather than every PS5 title.
How to change the PSSR setting
- From the PS5 Pro home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video.
- Select Video Output.
- Select Enhance PSSR Image Quality to change its state. To turn it off, use this same control and switch it back on whenever you want.
Sony gives this menu path for turning the feature off. The setting is reversible, so you can compare both states in a supported game.
What Enhance PSSR Image Quality does
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel while upscaling game visuals. The upgraded version is intended to improve reconstruction precision, motion stability, fine-detail clarity, and consistency, but those aims are not a guarantee of better visuals or performance in every game. Sony’s March 16, 2026 PlayStation Blog post says results vary by title.
The option concerns PS5 Pro games that support PSSR; it does not enable PSSR across the entire PS5 library. A game with built-in support for the upgraded version may behave differently from one using the system option to apply enhanced PSSR to a game originally built for the earlier PSSR version.

When to turn it off—or leave it on
If you see unexpected visual effects, Sony recommends turning the option off. Compare the same game and scene with the setting enabled and disabled, paying attention to image stability, fine detail, motion artifacts, and the game’s own fidelity or performance mode. There is no single state that is best for every supported game.
Which games support enhanced PSSR?
Sony’s PS5 Pro page currently lists these titles under Enhanced PSSR: Resident Evil Requiem, SILENT HILL f, SILENT HILL 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Control, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Nioh 3, Rise of the Ronin, Crimson Desert, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and Cyberpunk 2077. Support can change as games and system software are updated, so check Sony’s page for its current list.

If the setting is missing
- Confirm the console is a PS5 Pro; this is not a standard PS5 setting.
- Check for and install available system software updates through the console’s system settings. Sony said the upgraded PSSR was integrated with the latest system software update, which began rolling out in phases on March 16, 2026; it did not specify one firmware version required for every console.
