Assuming you mean Elden Ring, two-handing uses a modifier plus an attack input: hold Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, or E on the default PC keyboard mapping, then press the input for the hand you want. These controls are specific to Elden Ring, not universal across games.

What changes when you two-hand
Two-handing can change the weapon’s available attacks and increase attack power, according to GameSpot and High Ground Gaming. The trade-off is that your off-hand shield is not available for its defensive use while you are in the two-handed stance. No reliable, attributable damage-increase figure is established by these guides, so the benefit should not be reduced to a universal percentage.
When to use the stance
Choose based on what the encounter calls for: two-handing favors the weapon’s offensive options, while keeping a shield equipped and usable supports a more defensive approach. Neither stance is categorically better; the useful choice depends on the attacks you want available and how you prefer to defend.

Why older instructions may differ
Some earlier FromSoftware games used a simpler modifier-only action. The cited Elden Ring guides describe an extra shoulder-button or attack input, so holding Triangle, Y, or E by itself is not the complete sequence here.
