To unban a player on a Minecraft Java server, an authorized operator can usually run /pardon <player>. For a confirmed IP ban, use /pardon-ip <address>. On a Bedrock Dedicated Server, removing a player from the allowlist is a different operation and does not necessarily clear a separate ban. The right fix depends on where the restriction was applied: a server, a Realm, or the player’s Minecraft account.
First identify where the restriction came from
Before changing anything, determine whether the player was blocked by a Java server, a Bedrock Dedicated Server, a Realm, or Minecraft account enforcement. These systems do not share one universal unban command.

- Private server: The server owner or an administrator with adequate permissions must remove the restriction. If you do not control the server, ask its administrator.
- Bedrock Dedicated Server allowlist: The player may be missing from the allowlist rather than banned.
- Realm: Use the Realm’s current member or blocked-player controls; dedicated-server commands should not be assumed to work in the Realm interface.
- Minecraft account suspension: A server command cannot reverse an account-level suspension. Use Minecraft’s appeal process.
Minecraft’s official command guide says multiplayer commands require sufficient permission and advises players on someone else’s server to ask its owner for help.
Unban a player on a Java server
Remove a username ban
- As an operator or administrator, open the server console or in-game chat. If using chat, begin the command with a slash.
- Run
/pardon <player>, replacing<player>with the banned player’s Minecraft username. - Have the player try to join again. If the server still rejects them, check whether the ban is an IP ban, a plugin or host-panel restriction, or another access rule.
/pardon <player> is common Java server guidance, but the official Minecraft command page inspected here documents /ban <playername> and does not document /pardon. Server software, plugins, versions, and host panels can affect the available syntax; check the server’s /help output or provider documentation if the command fails. A generic /unban command should not be assumed to be the standard Java command.

- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Remove an IP ban only if one was applied
If the server administrator confirms the restriction is an IP ban, common Java server guidance uses /pardon-ip <address>. Enter the address associated with the ban, not the player’s username. Confirm the command against the specific server implementation or hosting provider before using it.
Restore access on a Bedrock Dedicated Server
Bedrock Dedicated Server has documented allowlist controls. An allowlist determines which players are permitted to join; removing a name from that list is not the same as clearing every possible ban. Check the server’s actual restriction before choosing a fix.

Remove a player from the allowlist
- At the server console, or in-game with suitable operator permissions, run
/allowlist remove <GamerTag>, substituting the player’s GamerTag. - If you edited
allowlist.jsondirectly instead, run/allowlist reloadso the server reads the updated file. - To see commands available in the server console, type
help. The Bedrock command reference also notes that/helpcan show available commands and syntax.
Microsoft’s Bedrock Dedicated Server guide documents /allowlist remove <GamerTag>, editing allowlist.json, and reloading the allowlist. Its separate Bedrock command reference does not list /pardon; do not assume Java server commands apply to Bedrock.
Handle a restriction on a Bedrock Realm
For a Realm, the owner should check the Realm’s current member or blocked-player controls and the relevant platform help. The precise current menu path is not established here, so avoid relying on a dedicated-server command or a guessed sequence of menu labels. If you are not the Realm owner, ask the owner to review the restriction.

Appeal a Minecraft account suspension
If the message indicates that Minecraft or Xbox has suspended the account, changing a private server’s ban list will not restore access. Follow the official Minecraft account ban and appeal process. Minecraft distinguishes account suspensions from private-server bans; for the latter, the player should contact that server’s administrator.

If the player still cannot join
- Confirm you removed the restriction from the same server or Realm the player is trying to enter.
- Check whether it was a username ban, an IP ban, or an allowlist exclusion; these require different actions.
- Verify that the operator has permission and that the command matches the server’s edition and software.
- For a managed host, check its panel or provider guidance because plugins and hosting controls can add restrictions beyond the base server commands.
