Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo unlink and relink a platform account, sign in to the Epic Games account currently connected to it, open Linked accounts, choose Unlink beside the platform, and follow the prompts. If you are switching to a different account of the same platform type, Epic may also require you to remove a linking restriction before you can connect the replacement. First confirm which account holds the game progress you want: unlinking does not transfer or merge progress between Epic accounts.
Before you unlink: confirm the accounts and game progress
Make sure you know which Epic Games account is currently linked to your console or other platform, and which account contains the progress you want to keep. Epic’s instructions are at How do I unlink my console account from my Epic Games account?.

- Identify the linked Epic account. Sign out of the Epic website, then choose the option to sign in with your platform account. This can show which Epic account the platform opens. The platform account’s email address can differ from the email on the Epic account. See Epic’s guide to a console account linked to another Epic Games account.
- Check where your game progress lives. Fortnite and Fall Guys progress and purchases are associated with an Epic account. Rocket League progress is associated with the external platform account, so disconnecting the account that holds it can affect access to its inventory, level, history, or earned content.
- Check Fortnite Crew. If the platform account you plan to remove has an active Fortnite Crew subscription, Epic advises canceling it first. After unlinking, you will not receive new rewards through that subscription.
Unlink the platform account
- Sign in to the Epic Games account that is currently linked to the platform.
- Open Linked accounts in your account settings.
- Find the connected platform and select Unlink.
- Follow the on-screen confirmation steps. Epic may ask you to verify your email address.
Unlinking disconnects the platform from the Epic account; it does not move game progress to a different Epic account. Epic outlines the procedure and consequences in its unlinking instructions.
Link a different account of the same platform type
If you are replacing the platform account with another account of the same type—for example, switching which account is connected for that platform—unlinking the old account may not be enough. Epic may block the new link because of a previous same-platform association.

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
- Unlink the currently connected platform account if it is still linked.
- If Epic indicates that a linking restriction applies, use the restriction-removal flow described in its guide to linking a different platform account.
- Return to Linked accounts and choose Link for the intended platform account. Complete Epic’s prompts.
Epic says the restriction can be removed once every 365 days. This limit concerns removal of the linking restriction, not ordinary unlinking.
What unlinking means for Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League
| Game | Where progress is associated | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Fortnite | The Epic Games account | Unlinking disconnects the platform from the Epic account’s progress and purchases; it does not transfer them to another Epic account. |
| Fall Guys | The Epic Games account | Progress and purchases remain associated with the Epic account, rather than moving when a platform is unlinked. |
| Rocket League | The external platform account | Unlinking the platform account that holds progress can reset or remove access to its inventory, level, history, or earned content. To sync, launch Rocket League on each linked platform and reach the main menu. |
Epic says Fortnite progress from separate Epic accounts cannot be merged, and support cannot combine it. A console shows the progress associated with the Epic account currently linked to it. If two separate progress sets need to remain available, keep the accounts separate. Epic explains these game-specific distinctions in its progress-sync troubleshooting guide.

If something goes wrong
“This account is already linked”
Sign out of the Epic website and sign in using the platform’s sign-in option to identify the Epic account already connected. Check the account details carefully; its email may not match the platform account’s email.
The console is linked to an account with missing details
The account may have been created automatically when the console was first used without registering an Epic account. Epic recommends completing that account and syncing progress rather than unlinking it, because unlinking can remove access to game data on that console. Follow Epic’s guidance on console accounts linked to another Epic account.

Progress is missing after relinking
For Fortnite or Fall Guys, check that the platform is linked to the Epic account containing the progress you expect; progress from another Epic account will not merge into it. For Rocket League, confirm the external platform account that holds the progress is linked, then launch the game on each linked platform and reach the main menu to sync.
You cannot access the Epic account email or see an unrecognized platform link
Use Epic’s account recovery process if you cannot access the account email. If an unrecognized platform account is linked, remove it if you can, contact Epic Support, and secure the Epic account.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
