Fighter, Mage, Archer, and Thief are available from the beginning; unlock the other six through quests, story progress, or by meeting specific characters. Here’s what to do for each one.
Starting vocations: available from the beginning
Capcom’s official manual lists four vocations available at the beginning of the game:
- Fighter
- Mage
- Archer
- Thief
Unlock Warrior and Sorcerer with Vocation Frustration
Warrior
Complete the Vernworth side quest Vocation Frustration and obtain the requested greatsword. The quest is the reported unlock route for Warrior.
Sorcerer
Complete Vocation Frustration and obtain the requested archistaff. PowerPyx also reports that Sorcerer unlocks automatically after the main quest Feast of Deception, offering a story-progression alternative.

Unlock Mystic Spearhand by meeting Sigurd
Mystic Spearhand is associated with Sigurd. One opportunity to meet him is during Readvent of Calamity at Melve; another reported opportunity comes later during A New Godsway. Sigurd can also appear at other dragon-related locations, and the timing of encounters may vary with story progression. Speak with him when you find him.
Unlock Trickster at Reverent Shrine
Speak with the Oracle at Reverent Shrine to unlock Trickster. The story quest Flickering Shadows also directs you to speak with the Oracle and the Dragonforged.

Complete the side quest Put a Spring in Thy Step to unlock Magick Archer.
Unlock Warfarer through The Sotted Sage
Complete The Sotted Sage to unlock Warfarer. In a PlayStation Blog article, Capcom Promotion Producer Ken Mendoza describes it as a vocation that lets players fight while switching between other vocations’ weapons. Warfarer is exclusive to the Arisen and can use all weapon types. Its tradeoff is that its basic stats are not high, and carrying multiple weapons is part of using it.

Where to change vocation
Once a vocation is unlocked, change to it at a vocation guild hall. Capcom’s official manual confirms that vocation changes are available there. PowerPyx also reports an inn in Melve and guild halls in Vernworth and Bakbattahl as options; that location list is guide-reported, not an exhaustive official list.
