Metaphor: ReFantazio has 14 Followers, according to Gamer Guides and PCGamesN. Some Bonds begin automatically as the story advances; the optional ones require specific side quests, Royal Virtue ranks, story milestones, or travel conditions. This checklist gives each first-unlock trigger and associated Archetype. Dates are in-game calendar dates and are earliest availability reported by guides, not guaranteed deadlines. Spoilers for story progression and later-game characters follow.

Follow the named quest or story condition first; use the date as a guidepost when one is available. “Automatic” means the Bond begins through story progression rather than a separate optional unlock quest.

How to use this checklist
Start with story events for the early Followers
More, Gallica, Strohl, Maria, and Hulkenberg enter the Bond roster through story progression. If one has not appeared on the date a guide lists, continue the main story rather than treating that date as a cutoff; guide sources vary slightly in their first-availability wording.
Complete optional unlocks when their prerequisites are met
Catherina, Brigitta, Neuras, Alonzo, and Bardon have named quest, Virtue, conversation, or story triggers. For Brigitta and Alonzo, the Royal Virtue rank is a prerequisite to starting their respective quests, not merely a suggested target. For Neuras and the Martira unlocks, check the named quest or story sequence rather than relying on the calendar alone.

Junah and Eupha’s Bonds depend on Virga Island story progression and their respective quests. Basilio’s first Bond has a location-and-state requirement: talk to him aboard the Gauntlet Runner while it is moving, after he has joined.

Establishing a Bond opens its associated Archetype tree. Advancing Bond ranks can unlock further Archetypes, inheritance slots, and other gameplay benefits. Ordinary Bond conversations use a time slot, and some later rank events have additional gates such as a Royal Virtue threshold, quest completion, or story progress. PCGamesN reports that dialogue choices affect the MAG reward rather than whether a conversation advances the rank; that does not remove the other progression gates.

More progresses differently
More does not advance through ordinary meetups in the same way as most Followers. His requests ask you to research or raise Archetypes; completing those tasks advances his Bond. Because those tasks involve Archetypes, his route can depend on progress in other Followers’ trees.
