Hytale has an Avatar Creator for changing your character’s appearance, but official sources reviewed as of October 8, 2026, do not confirm the current menu path or how to save changes. The options available can also vary as customization features unlock and receive updates. Armor visibility is a separate character-panel setting; it does not edit your avatar.
How to change your avatar in Hytale
Open the in-game Avatar Creator to personalize your character. Hytale’s current official material confirms that the creator exists, but does not document the exact clicks to open it or confirm and save edits. Hytale’s older character-customization walkthrough is explicitly marked outdated, so its menu labels and steps should not be treated as verified for the current build.
Use the labels and prompts shown in your live game, and check current patch notes if a control differs or is missing. The documented sources do not establish a current randomize or reset command, so do not assume a particular button or save procedure.
What you can customize
The available catalog is evolving, and Hytale says customization features unlock progressively. That means the complete set of options may not be available to every player or in every build; the sources do not specify every unlock condition. See Hytale’s modeling guidance for its note on progressive unlocks.

In its January 24, 2026 Update 2 patch notes, Hytale listed additions including mask and blindfold accessories, mouth variants, a white fantasy-cotton cosmetic color, and visual updates to several hairstyles. These are examples from that update, not a complete list of current options.
A July 2026 Chapter 1 preview said the team was adding more detailed hand and eyelash options in the Avatar Creator and planned to continue adding customization options and cosmetics as chapters progress. Because this is a development update, it does not guarantee that every mentioned detail is available in every current build.

Hide equipped armor without changing your avatar
If armor is covering the look you made, use the armor-slot visibility toggles beside equipped armor in the character panel. Update 2 introduced these controls; they change whether equipped armor is shown, not the underlying avatar’s appearance. Server hosts can disable or enable the feature, so a toggle may depend on the server’s settings.
Avatar edits, cosmetics, and mods are different
| Option | What it changes | Availability or control |
|---|---|---|
| Avatar Creator | Your character’s appearance | Built-in game feature; options unlock progressively and change over time. |
| Armor visibility | Whether equipped armor is displayed | Character-panel toggle; server hosts can control whether the feature is enabled. |
| Visual mods | Game visuals supplied by a mod | Hytale says each player who wants to see a player-created visual mod must have it installed. |
Hytale’s official FAQ says special avatar cosmetics are available through early-access editions. It does not establish that every cosmetic is available to every player, or provide a complete current catalog and unlock list. The FAQ says official cosmetics are reserved to Hytale for now; a possible future route for artists to sell cosmetics is described as a long-term goal, not a currently available store.

Creating assets is another distinct activity, not a prerequisite for ordinary avatar edits. Hytale’s Asset Pack documentation describes packs as zip files or folders that can add or override game assets. That is a digital content-creation route, not a setting for changing your own character in the Avatar Creator.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the available options may differ
Hytale’s current guidance describes customization as an evolving feature: options are added over time and unlock progressively. For example, the January 2026 Update 2 notes document particular additions, while the July 2026 preview discusses further details in development. Check the live creator and the patch notes for your current build rather than treating either update as a final catalog.
