To unlock Autobuild in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, reach the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths and activate the Steward Construct there. Complete its build demonstration and the ability is yours. Josha’s questline points you toward the mine, but you do not have to formally unlock or finish that quest to get Autobuild.
Get Autobuild at the Great Abandoned Central Mine
The unlock happens at the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths, where a Steward Construct introduces Autobuild through a build demonstration. Head to the Construct and interact with it to begin. Game8 places the unlock point at approximately -0805, -1928, -0520; Nintendo Life gives a different approximate coordinate for the mine, so use the named location and your in-game map as the main guide rather than relying on a single coordinate.

- Complete the Camera Work in the Depths investigation. Return to Josha and continue her investigation when she offers the next step, A Mystery in the Depths.
- Enter the Depths and reach Iayusus Lightroot. Follow the successive statues; their trail leads toward the Great Abandoned Central Mine.
- At the mine, activate the Steward Construct and complete the build demonstration to receive Autobuild.
Nintendo Life describes the route from Iayusus Lightroot and gives approximate destination coordinates of -0678, -1611, -0512. The differing coordinates reported by guides are a reason to navigate by the mine’s map location and the statue trail, not to treat either coordinate as an exact marker. Nintendo Life’s Autobuild walkthrough covers the guided route.

Do you need to complete A Mystery in the Depths?
No. The questline is a useful way to discover the mine, but reaching the mine and activating its Steward Construct are what grant Autobuild. Game8 explicitly says you can obtain the ability without completing A Mystery in the Depths, and Zelda Dungeon distinguishes the quest’s formal unlock requirements from obtaining the ability itself.
For Josha’s quest route
Complete Camera Work in the Depths and at least one dungeon before expecting A Mystery in the Depths to formally unlock, according to Zelda Dungeon’s quest overview. The quest then directs you through the statue trail. A Master Kohga encounter is part of the continuing quest progression after the mine; it is not required just to obtain Autobuild.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
For a direct trip
If you want the ability as soon as practical, head to the Great Abandoned Central Mine without waiting for the quest to become active. You can follow the statues from Iayusus Lightroot or take another route through the Depths. The quest provides story context and direction, not a separate purchase or item prerequisite.

What Autobuild does
Autobuild recreates builds from your saved build history, Schema Stones, and Yiga Schematics. When all the parts for a build are nearby, you can assemble it without spending Zonaite. If parts are missing, Autobuild can supply them for a Zonaite cost; the amount depends on the build, so check the in-game prompt before confirming. See the Autobuild reference for an overview of the ability.
