To reach the True Ending in Kirby Air Riders, finish Road Trip once, then use New Game+ to collect any machines you missed. Secondary guides say you need all 22 machines before the final route, where you face an additional true-boss segment. Nintendo confirms Road Trip is the game’s single-player adventure, but its official page does not publish the detailed ending checklist.
How the True Ending route works
Nintendo describes Road Trip as a journey in which you “Clear challenges that stand in your way, unlock machines, and power up as you unravel the truth.” The mode’s challenges and branching routes make machine collection part of the story progression. Nintendo’s Kirby Air Riders page confirms the mode’s premise, but not the specific True Ending requirements.

Secondary guides report that the complete collection consists of 22 machines. Nintendo Life says to beat the story with all vehicles collected, while Game8 reports the 22-machine total. Treat that checklist as guide-reported rather than an official Nintendo-published condition.

First, complete Road Trip once
Play through Road Trip to its ending. According to Game8’s Japanese walkthrough, clearing the mode opens the post-clear route and lets you start New Game+ with progress carried over. You do not need to restart from a blank save to pick up machines you missed.
#1 Best Overall
- Charge, boost, and spin to attack your rivals in this vehicle action game featuring Kirby and crew
- Use the Boost Charge button to brake and control your turns as your machine fights for top speed
- Fill up your Boost Charge Gauge and then release to trigger an explosive dash
- Choose from a variety of riders like Kirby and Meta Knight, each with their own stats and Specials
- Zip around Skyah in City Trial: a free-for-all battle for 16 players online or 8 players via local wireless
Use New Game+ to collect missing machines
Check your collection, then choose branches that contain machines you still lack. The route choices can leave some machines uncollected in a run, so prioritize the missing entries rather than repeating a path that only awards machines you already have. Game8’s walkthrough specifically recommends taking routes with machines absent from your collection.
- Finish your first Road Trip run.
- Start New Game+ and carry over your progress.
- Review which machines are still missing.
- On the new run, select branches that contain those machines until the full 22-machine collection is complete, as reported by Game8.
Reach the final route and defeat the true boss
Once the full machine set is collected, continue to the final fight. The guides describe an extra true-boss segment beyond the ordinary ending route: Game8 names the boss Galactic Nova, and the Japanese walkthrough identifies this last segment as “Journey’s End.” Defeating the true boss is the final step to the True Ending.

Attack opposing riders, or trail close behind their wake, to gather up stars – and use the speed boost they provide to beat your rivals to the finish line!
What the ending does—and does not—unlock
Nintendo Life associates the True Ending with unlocking Leo. However, its machine guide separately lists a requirement to collect three parts from red boxes in City Trial. Reaching the True Ending alone therefore does not establish that you have met every condition for Leo’s unlock.

Update note: “Everything Resets” memory
Nintendo’s update notes say that reaching the Road Trip ending unlocks the “Everything Resets” memory, including on save data where the player had already reached the ending. This is an update-specific memory change; it does not establish a change to the True Ending’s machine-collection checklist.
