Chapter Five’s secret area is Bishui Cave. To open it, complete Pale-Axe Stalwart’s Five Element Carts quest: follow the chapter’s cart encounters, interact with the cart stuck in lava, defeat Rusty-Gold Cart at the frozen gate, speak to the wounded Stalwart, then open the gate.
Start the Five Element Carts quest
- Travel to Woods of Ember, Ashen Pass I. Find Pale-Axe Stalwart in the corridor where bulls and undead soldiers are fighting.
- Defeat the Stalwart, then speak to him until his dialogue repeats. This starts the Five Element Carts quest.
Progress through the cart encounters
Brown-Iron Cart, Gray-Bronze Cart, and Crimson-Silver Cart appear along Chapter Five’s story path. Continue the chapter rather than looking for three optional detours.
Check in with the Stalwart after Crimson-Silver Cart
After the fight, speak to the Stalwart if he is there and exhaust his dialogue. If he is absent, return to his earlier location and talk to him. He moves to the Crimson-Silver Cart area after this conversation.
Interact with the cart stuck in lava
At Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance, take the path down and enter the lava area on the right. Find the cart surrounded by enemies, interact with it to pull the string, and exhaust any dialogue. This is an interaction, not another conventional cart boss fight.

Reach the frozen gate and defeat Rusty-Gold Cart
- Go to Field of Fire, Fallen Furnace Crater and backtrack along the big ball’s route.
- Take the newly opened path where the ball broke a barrier. Continue past Flint Vanguard toward Cooling Slope.
- Approach the frozen gate and defeat Rusty-Gold Cart.
Open the gate to Bishui Cave
After the fight, speak to the wounded Pale-Axe Stalwart beside the gate. Then interact with the frozen gate and follow the path into Bishui Cave. Defeating Rusty-Gold Cart by itself does not complete the unlock; the Stalwart conversation and gate interaction are also required.

Recheck the quest’s interaction and dialogue steps rather than repeating cart fights. Confirm that you spoke to the Stalwart after Crimson-Silver Cart, pulled the string on the lava-stuck cart and exhausted its dialogue, and spoke to the wounded Stalwart after the final fight. Then interact with the frozen gate.
