MARVEL TōKON: Fighting Souls does not document a permanent challenge or campaign clear for its 20 launch characters. The “unlock” players notice happens inside a match: your third and fourth selected teammates become available after a qualifying stage break or a lost round. The official materials name seven stages but do not publish a complete permanent stage-unlock table.
What “unlock” means in MARVEL TōKON
There are two different systems behind the wording “unlock every character and stage.” The launch roster is presented as playable content, not as a set of fighters hidden behind Episode Mode, account levels, or a campaign requirement. Separately, every match begins with only two members of your four-character team available. The other two are match-specific teammates who enter when you meet the game’s stated conditions.

That distinction matters because completing a stage break does not add a fighter to your account, and losing a round does not permanently unlock one. Those events change who you can use during the current match. When the match ends, the team-access state resets for the next one.

All 20 launch characters
The MARVEL TōKON official FAQ lists 20 playable characters at launch. Nothing in that listing says that you must clear Episode Mode, finish a tutorial, win a number of matches, or connect an account before selecting them. If a character is missing from your selection screen, first confirm that the game has finished installing and that you are looking at the launch roster rather than a downloadable-content slot.

What you do not need to do
- You do not need to clear Episode Mode to add these 20 characters, according to the official launch information.
- You do not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to select them in offline modes on PS5.
- You do not need an arcade stick or leverless controller. Those devices are supported on PS5 but are optional input hardware.
- You do not need to buy the Year 1 pass for any of the 20 names in the table.
How to get your third and fourth characters during a match
Each player selects a team of four, but the match starts with only the first two selected characters available. To bring later teammates into the fight, use one of the two conditions documented in the official FAQ: create a qualifying stage break near the edge of the screen, or lose a round.
Method 1: cause a qualifying stage break
Move the opponent toward an arena edge and land an action that the game recognizes as a stage-break trigger. The documented categories are certain attacks or throws, selected Skill attacks, and a successful light-route Link Attack performed near the edge. The exact move that qualifies depends on the character and the move property; not every normal attack will work.
- Select a four-character team and begin a match.
- Play the opening portion with your first two available characters.
- Position the opponent close to the edge of the current section.
- Use a qualifying attack or throw, a listed Skill attack, or the specified light-route Link Attack.
- Confirm that the game produces a stage transition or wall splat and check the team display for the newly available teammate.
A stage break can change the arena area or produce a wall splat. It is both a combat interaction and the route to opening access to later members of your selected team for that match. The official description does not provide a universal button sequence that works for every character, so consult the in-game Battle Guides and Character Guides for the move properties of the fighter you are using.
Method 2: lose a round
Losing a round is the other stated condition for making the additional selected characters available. This is not a recommended competitive strategy, but it is a reliable fallback if you cannot consistently create a qualifying break. Because the condition is tied to the current match, the access it grants does not carry into a new match or permanently alter your roster.

What the game does not specify
The official FAQ explains the two conditions but does not publish a universal sequence saying that one particular move always reveals the third fighter and another always reveals the fourth. It also does not state that every stage break reveals both remaining teammates at once. Treat the mechanic as progressive in-match access: use the documented trigger, observe which teammate becomes available, and repeat a qualifying interaction if the remaining character has not appeared.
Stage breaks are not permanent stage unlocks
A stage break changes where the current fight takes place. It should not be confused with adding a stage to a menu, account, or save file. The same mechanic can cause a transition to another arena section or a wall splat, depending on the situation. It is available as part of match play rather than a progression reward.
Stages named in the official game information
The official PlayStation game page names and describes seven stages. Its descriptions emphasize transitions and multi-sectioned arenas, but the page does not say which stages require a permanent unlock. No complete official table was provided for story clears, difficulty requirements, or hidden conditions.

| Stage | What can be confirmed | Permanent unlock condition |
|---|---|---|
| Asgard | Named as an official stage; the game uses transition-capable, multi-sectioned arenas. | Not stated in the official materials reviewed. |
| Marvel’s New York (Night) | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
| Wakanda | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
| Marvel’s New York (Day) | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
| Savage Land | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
| X-Mansion | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
| Knowhere | Named as an official stage. | Not stated. |
Because no official source reviewed supplies a stage-by-stage unlock route, do not assume that Episode Mode completion, a difficulty setting, or a number of wins unlocks a particular arena. If a stage is absent from your version, check the stage-select filters, confirm that the installation and updates are complete, and consult current in-game notices or publisher updates. Those checks address a menu or version issue without inventing a progression requirement.

Launch content versus Year 1 downloadable content
The Year 1 Character and Stage Pass is a separate category from the 20-character launch roster and the stages named above. The official FAQ says the pass contains the first four additional DLC characters and one additional stage, available upon release of those additions, plus result poses for the 20 base characters. Buying the pass does not function as a key for the launch roster.
| Content | Included with the launch game? | Access route |
|---|---|---|
| 20 characters listed in the official FAQ | Presented as playable launch content. | Select them from the launch roster; no documented permanent unlock task. |
| First four Year 1 DLC characters | No; part of the separate pass or applicable edition. | Purchase the pass or an edition that includes it, then install the add-on. |
| One Year 1 post-launch stage | No; part of the separate pass. | Purchase and install the pass or included edition content. |
| Result poses for the 20 base characters | No; listed as pass content. | Included with the pass, subject to the storefront’s delivery and account rules. |
Reported Year One names
A GamesRadar report dated October 11, 2026 identified Phoenix Cyclops, Jane Foster’s Thor, Venom, and Jubilee, along with a Klyntar stage, in its coverage of Year One content. That is secondary reporting, not a complete official release schedule. Verify the character and stage listing in the current in-game store or publisher announcement before relying on a particular release date.
Current US purchase options and what they change
The current US PlayStation product page lists the following prices. They are regional storefront figures and can change, so the amount shown in your store at checkout is controlling.

| Ultimate Edition | $99.99 | Includes the edition’s listed premium contents; check the current storefront description for the exact bundle. |
| Year 1 pass add-on | $34.99 | Adds the pass content; it is not needed for the 20 launch characters. |
The launch announcement gave the Standard Edition an MSRP of $59.99 and Digital Deluxe an MSRP of $84.99. It announced an August 6, 2026 launch, with August 7 in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Korea. Those dates explain why regional storefronts can show different availability, but they do not create a character or stage challenge.

Offline, online, and account requirements
Access rules depend on the mode, not on a hidden roster progression system. The official FAQ lists Episode Mode, local Versus, Training Mode, All-Star Arena, Battle Guides, Character Guides, and additional offline content. It also says Arcadia Rumble is fully playable offline, with optional online features.
- PS5 offline: PlayStation Plus is not required for offline content.
- PC offline: The offline PC SKU can be played without a PlayStation account.
- Online Lobby, Room Matches, Ranked, Casual, profiles, and related features: Require an internet connection and an account.
- PS5 online play: Requires PlayStation Plus in addition to the connection and account requirements.
Nothing in those requirements ties completion of an offline mode to adding one of the 20 launch characters or permanently opening a base-game stage. Choose offline or online based on the mode you want to use.
A practical checklist for a new player
- Install the full game and any current update for your platform.
- Open Character Select and check the launch roster for the 20 names listed above.
- Choose four teammates if you want to practice the in-match access system.
- Start a local Versus, Training, or another mode that lets you control a match.
- Use the Battle Guides and Character Guides to identify qualifying Skills, throws, and the light-route Link Attack for your character.
- Move the opponent toward the edge and attempt the qualifying interaction.
- After the stage break or wall splat, check whether the next selected teammate is available.
- If you cannot produce the break, complete the round and note that losing a round is the other documented trigger.
- For a DLC character or stage, check the store listing, purchase the relevant pass or edition only if needed, and install the add-on.
- If a named stage is missing, check the stage-select menu, downloads, updates, and current publisher notices rather than assuming an undocumented campaign requirement.
Troubleshooting common “unlock” problems
“My third character is still greyed out.”
Make sure you are in an active match with a four-character team. The first two are the only characters available at the opening bell. Then attempt a qualifying edge interaction or lose a round. Ordinary attacks in the middle of the arena may not count as a stage break.
“I hit the opponent near the wall, but nothing happened.”
Proximity alone is not sufficient. The FAQ refers to certain attacks or throws, selected Skill attacks, and a successful light-route Link Attack. Review the move’s guide entry and confirm that the opponent is close enough to the edge for the interaction to register.

“I thought a stage break unlocked a new stage forever.”
It does not. The transition belongs to the current match. The official materials describe the break as a way to change arena sections and to bring later selected teammates into play, not as a save-file reward.
“A stage in the official list is not selectable.”
The official pages name the stages but do not establish a complete unlock policy. Check that the game is fully installed, that the latest update is applied, and that you are not filtering the stage list by a mode or ruleset. If the issue persists, consult the current in-game notices or publisher support for your platform and region.
“I bought the pass but cannot use the DLC.”
Confirm that the pass was purchased on the same platform account that owns the game, that the add-on has finished downloading, and that the storefront region matches the account region. The pass covers its listed Year 1 additions; it is not required for the 20 launch characters.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →“Do I need special hardware?”
No. The PlayStation game page confirms compatibility with arcade sticks and leverless controllers, but those are optional. A standard supported controller is sufficient to select characters, perform stage-break actions, and play offline or online modes subject to the mode’s account requirements.
What is confirmed, and what remains undocumented
You can treat the 20-character launch list and the two in-match access conditions as established: begin with the first two selected fighters, then use a qualifying stage break near the edge or lose a round to bring later teammates into the match. You can also treat Asgard, Marvel’s New York (Night), Wakanda, Marvel’s New York (Day), Savage Land, X-Mansion, and Knowhere as stages named by the official game information.
What is not established by those materials is a permanent unlock route for the launch roster or a complete base-game stage table. Do not promise that a particular episode, win count, difficulty, or hidden challenge unlocks one. For any later patch, platform-specific menu change, or new downloadable-content release, use the current in-game and storefront information.
