You can unlock Courier functionality in Palia without buying a pet: complete the Main Story through “Something Wicked,” finish “Pieces of the Past,” then complete the three-part Courier questline with Tamala. The questline awards the Platinum Galdur Pup and, by its end, the Courier Saddlebag with four additional slots usable with any pet.
What you need before starting
Palia’s official Patch 0.192 notes, dated June 12, 2025, list two prerequisites for the Courier questline:
- Progress through the Main Story through “Something Wicked.”
- Complete “Pieces of the Past.”
These are the stated Courier quest requirements. The patch notes separately recommend completing the Temples questline through “Rooted in Place” before venturing far into the Elderwood; that is general zone advice, not an additional stated prerequisite for Courier. Read the Patch 0.192 notes.
How to complete the free Courier questline
- Meet the two prerequisites: finish “Something Wicked” in the Main Story and complete “Pieces of the Past.”
- Start the Courier questline with Tamala and follow the objectives shown in game.
- Complete all three parts of the adventure to receive the Platinum Galdur Pup and unlock the Courier Saddlebag.
The questline involves a cursed object and the mysteries of Echo and the Elderwood. The official notes describe its broad premise, but do not publish a full objective-by-objective walkthrough; follow the in-game quest prompts rather than relying on unverified step lists. Official quest details.

What unlocks—and whether you need the pup equipped
The Platinum Galdur Pup is the free pet reward. Completing the questline also unlocks the Courier Saddlebag, which adds four courier slots. Those slots can be used with any pet, so you do not have to equip the Galdur Pup to use the added capacity. Palia’s Patch 0.192 notes.
Do you have to buy a pet or bundle?
No purchase is required for this route. Singularity 6 said the free pet, once earned, would unlock Courier functionality so players who did not want to spend would not be left out. Paid pets and bundles are optional; the Tamala questline is the path to the free pet and its Courier unlock. Singularity 6’s announcement.

Palia’s news page listed Patch 0.207, dated September 29, 2026, among its latest articles, but that listing does not establish whether the Courier requirements changed after Patch 0.192.
