To unlock glamour in Final Fantasy XIV, complete the level 15 quest If I Had a Glamour from Swyrgeim in Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan. You can then project one item’s appearance onto another with Cast Glamour, store appearances in an inn-room glamour dresser, and use in-game dyes to change supported gear. Dyeing is a separate feature; the official guide explains how dyes work and where to get them, but the sources cited here do not establish the dye-unlock quest’s level or route.
How to unlock glamour in FFXIV
Complete If I Had a Glamour, a level 15 quest given by Swyrgeim in Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan, at X:12.6, Y:14.3. The current Lodestone UI guide confirms the quest name and level; the Patch 4.1 notes give the quest giver and location.

After completing it, Cast Glamour becomes available in the general actions interface. You can also cast glamour from an item’s subcommand or use a glamour dresser in an inn room.
Choose how to apply a glamour
| Method | How it works | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Cast Glamour | Project the appearance of one item onto another from the action, or an item’s subcommand. | Use it for a direct, individual change. Glamour prisms are used when storing gear in the dresser, not when applying a stored glamour. |
| Glamour dresser | Store eligible gear as appearances, then use those appearances for glamours. | Found in inn rooms; Cast Glamour must first be unlocked. Storing an item consumes a glamour prism and removes the source item. |
| Glamour plate | Save a coordinated combination of dresser glamours and some armoire items for later application. | Applying a plate uses no additional prism. You must be in a permitted area and able to equip every item on the plate. |
The official glamour guide covers the casting options. The Patch 4.2 notes describe dresser storage, plates, and their restrictions. Permitted plate application areas include large settlements, the Gold Saucer, residential districts, inns, and the Ivory Chapel.

- Adventure awaits you beyond the horizon in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
- This product is a digital 60-Day Game Time Card for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. It serves as a payment option that allows players to add 60 days of game time to their FFXIV account at the Standard subscription rate, subject to account limits. Both the game and game time are required to play.
- This product can be redeemed on service accounts registered with the Windows, Mac, PlayStation, or Steam versions of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. However, it cannot be redeemed on service accounts that have only the XBOX or Nintendo Switch 2 versions registered.
Be careful before storing gear
Storing an item in the dresser converts it into a glamour and consumes a prism. The official notes describe this conversion as irreversible: the appearance remains available, but the item itself cannot be returned to your inventory. Some gear cannot be stored, so check the item before converting valuable equipment.
Where to get glamour prisms
Glamour prisms are in-game items used to store eligible gear as a glamour. They are available through in-game acquisition routes; consult the official Glamour Prisms guide for their use. Keep the distinction clear: a prism is needed to store an appearance in the dresser, but applying an existing dresser glamour or saved plate does not consume another one.

How to get and use dyes
Dyes are consumable in-game items. The official Guide to Dyes lists vendors, the market board, quest rewards, and crafting by crafters at level 30 or higher as ways to obtain them. A pot is consumed for each distinct dyeable section you color.
Patch 7.5 consolidated many dye items into three categories: Standard Spectrum Dye, Wide Spectrum #1 Dye, and Wide Spectrum #2 Dye. This consolidation does not include online-store dyes or similarly colored rare dyes. See the Patch 7.5 notes for the change.

Remove dye with Terebinth
To remove color from one section of an item, use Terebinth. It can be obtained from vendors or the market board; see the official Removing Dye guide.

Is there a separate dye-unlock quest?
Dyeing is separate from unlocking glamour. The official dye guide confirms dye sources and use, but the official material cited here does not establish a current quest entry with the dye-unlock quest’s level, location, and prerequisites. For that reason, no specific quest route is given here. Once the dyeing feature is available to your character, the guide’s listed acquisition methods apply.
