Hao’s Special Works (HSW) is available at the Los Santos Car Meet on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC running GTAV Enhanced. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rockstar says Hao’s Intro Race is no longer required to access HSW upgrades and mods. If the service is still locked, follow Hao’s phone-call prompt and beat the HSW time trial in an HSW-modified vehicle.
Check that your edition supports HSW
HSW is documented for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GTAV Enhanced on PC. Rockstar announced HSW for the PC Enhanced edition; PC Legacy is a separate edition and is not the version identified for this feature. See Rockstar’s PC Enhanced announcement and its PC pre-load announcement.

Unlock the service
- Go to the Los Santos Car Meet and check whether Hao’s HSW service is already available. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rockstar’s Title Update 1.64 notes say players no longer need to complete Hao’s Intro Race to access the HSW Upgrade Service and mods. The exemption is explicitly for those consoles; see Rockstar’s Title Update 1.64 notes.
- If the service remains locked, wait for and answer Hao’s phone call, then follow the HSW time-trial prompt.
- Use an HSW-modified vehicle to complete the time trial and beat its par time. Xbox Wire describes the call-and-time-trial route in its GTA Online guide.
- Return to Hao’s service at the Los Santos Car Meet once it becomes available.
Intro Race versus the HSW time trial
The two requirements are described differently by the available official sources. Rockstar’s update notes specifically remove the Intro Race requirement for access to HSW upgrades and mods on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox Wire’s later guide describes answering Hao’s call and beating the HSW time trial as the usual unlock route. The sources do not explain how those steps relate, so do not treat the Intro Race as universally mandatory on consoles. If HSW is not open, the call and time-trial route is the practical next step; the cited console exemption does not establish the same exemption for PC Enhanced.

Use an eligible vehicle at Hao’s workshop
When the service is available, bring a vehicle that HSW supports to Hao at the Car Meet. HSW upgrades apply to selected vehicles, not every car in GTA Online, so check the model at the in-game service before buying or preparing a vehicle specifically for an upgrade. Rockstar describes HSW as a source of high-performance upgrades for selected vehicles. The original Xbox Wire guide also notes improved acceleration and Chameleon Paint among its offerings.
