New players can unlock Kiriko by completing Overwatch 2’s first-time user experience (FTUE) and then unlocking the original Overwatch roster. Blizzard says all Overwatch 2 heroes become available after those steps. Follow the prompts in your current game client; Blizzard’s published guidance describes the policy but does not specify every task or menu label.
Current way to unlock Kiriko
- Complete the FTUE. Start Overwatch 2 and follow the onboarding prompts shown in your game.
- Unlock the original Overwatch roster. Continue through the progression the client presents.
- Check the hero roster for Kiriko. Blizzard’s policy says all Overwatch 2 heroes become available once the original roster has been unlocked. Kiriko is an Overwatch 2 hero; see Blizzard’s Kiriko profile.
Blizzard’s Developer Update: Hero Releases, Mythics, and Gameplay Updates describes this as the new-player access policy. It does not give a step-by-step list of FTUE missions or current screen names, so use the live client’s prompts rather than relying on an unverified menu walkthrough.

Why older Kiriko unlock guides may not match
Kiriko’s access rules changed over time. Blizzard’s later policy for new players supersedes the older, season-specific instructions as the general route described here.

Do you have to buy Kiriko?
The latest located policy says new players can access Kiriko through game progression after completing the FTUE and unlocking the original roster; it does not require a purchase. The documented shop purchase was a Season 2 alternative, not the current general policy. No physical product is required to unlock the hero.
