Plasmified Zango is an optional Act 3 boss in a secret room in the western Wormways. Keep damage on him to limit his rapid regeneration, watch for his increasingly long Plasmium Torrent volleys as his health falls, and use a Needle Phial if you have one: each successful extraction lowers his maximum health by 250.
Where to find Plasmified Zango
Look for a secret room in the western Wormways during Act 3. In Acts 1 and 2, the room contains Zango’s inert corpse; he becomes hostile after Plasmium transforms the Wormways. Approaching him starts the fight. The encounter is optional, and Hornet can leave the room at any time.
What to expect in the fight
The Hollow Knight Wiki lists Zango at 1,000 health and says he regenerates 25 health every 0.75 seconds whenever he is not actively taking damage. These figures come from the wiki’s entry, last edited 8 September 2026; they are not independently tested here. The practical consequence is that extended pauses to dodge or reposition can give back much of your progress. Keep damage flowing where you safely can.
How Plasmium Torrent changes
The wiki reports that Zango’s attacks escalate at these health thresholds. His torrent sends paired blobs arcing out on both sides of him in consecutive sets:

- Below 950 HP: 4–5 sets.
- Below 750 HP: Zango shuffles faster, and the torrent grows to 6–7 sets with a longer arc.
- Below 500 HP: He replaces the shuffle with a short slide between volleys; the torrent grows to 8–9 sets and covers much of the arena.
- Below 250 HP: The torrent reaches 9–10 sets and travels farther.
As his health drops, reassess your spacing rather than relying on the room you had during the opening volleys.
Best strategy: use a Needle Phial if you have one
The Hollow Knight Wiki says the Needle Phial is obtained by starting the Alchemist’s Assistant or Advanced Alchemy wishes. Use it to extract Plasmified Blood from Zango: each successful extraction reduces his maximum health by 250, and that reduction persists if you leave and return. Four successful extractions kill him, making the Phial a direct way to avoid winning a prolonged damage race against his regeneration.

Fighting without the Phial
Without the Phial, aim for sustained damage that outpaces his regeneration. The wiki names the Beast Crest and Wanderer Crest as attack-output options. For ranged pressure, it lists Silkshot (Original), Sting Shard, and Tacks; ordinary Needle attacks can also help maintain pressure without spending shards. These are in-game choices, not tested or guaranteed builds.

The Hollow Knight Wiki lists no reward beyond one Hunter’s Journal kill, so this is not required for progression according to that reward listing. The Journal describes Zango as “Husk of an alchemist’s assistant granted false life by Plasmium.” The wiki says he was Zylotol’s assistant, shared his interest in Plasmium, and died while planting Plasmium buds in the caves.
