To unlock Home Sweet Home, the Michael De Santa mission in GTA Online’s A Safehouse in the Hills update, own a mansion, complete all five of Avi Schwartzman’s KnoWay Out missions, then wait in free roam for Avi’s call or invite. The follow-up can be delayed; the available guides do not establish a reliable fixed wait time.
What you need before starting
- Any one of the three mansions: The Tongva Estate, The Vinewood Residence, or Richman Villa. The guides identify no specific property as required. GameSpot’s guide lists these choices.
- Access to Avi Schwartzman’s mission chain: You must finish all five KnoWay Out missions before the Michael mission becomes available.
How to unlock Home Sweet Home
- Buy a mansion. Choose any of the three properties listed above. The mansion is an in-game prerequisite; none of the cited guides says the choice affects eligibility.
- Find Avi’s A icon and answer the payphone. Go to the A marker on the map and answer the ringing payphone to start the KnoWay Out chain, as described in GameSpot’s walkthrough.
- Complete all five KnoWay Out missions. After each mission, follow the next A icon that appears. Do not stop after the opening job: the full five-mission chain is the requirement.
- Stay in free roam and wait for Avi. After the fifth mission, allow time for Avi’s follow-up call or invite. GTA BOOM’s guide, updated July 21, 2026, advises waiting in free roam.
- Accept Home Sweet Home. Avi’s follow-up starts the mission, which features Michael De Santa and has you defend the mansion against mercenaries, according to GTA BOOM.
Why Avi may not have called yet
The follow-up is not described as an immediate, guaranteed trigger. Published guides give conflicting estimates: Beebom’s December 10, 2025 guide gives one interval for activating the Avi chain and another for the post-mission invite, while GameSpot’s December 10, 2025 guide says the call may take from a few minutes to over an hour. Since those timings differ, treat them as estimates rather than a timer you can rely on. Stay in free roam and give the game time to trigger Avi’s follow-up. Beebom’s guide and GameSpot’s guide provide the differing estimates.

The reviewed guides identify Home Sweet Home as the Michael-featured mission tied to this update. They do not confirm additional Michael missions, so completing the unlock steps above gets you to this mission rather than establishing access to a larger Michael storyline.
