To unlock the initial Mizutsune hunt in Monster Hunter Wilds, install Free Title Update 1 or later, reach Hunter Rank (HR) 21, then speak to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. The 8-star Tempered Mizutsune is a separate encounter unlocked at HR 41 or above.
Unlock the initial Mizutsune hunt
- Update the game. Mizutsune was added in Free Title Update 1, announced in April 2025. The update is free; no separate Mizutsune purchase is required. Capcom’s update announcement describes the hunt and new hunter and Palico armor sets forgeable from its materials.
- Reach Hunter Rank 21. The official unlock requirement is HR 21 or above.
- Speak with Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. Talking to her starts the Mizutsune hunt. The official announcement states: “To start the Mizutsune hunt, talk to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp at Hunter Rank (HR)21 or above.” PlayStation.Blog
If Kanya does not offer the hunt
First confirm that Free Title Update 1 or a later version is installed and that your Hunter Rank is at least 21. If the hunt still does not appear, check Kanya’s available side missions. Game8’s guide reports that her “Fishing: Life in Microcosm” side mission must be completed first, but the official Capcom announcements cited here do not list that as a prerequisite. Unlock Tempered Mizutsune
The Tempered version is not part of the initial HR 21 unlock. At HR 41 or above, 8-star Tempered Mizutsune becomes available through the Environmental Overview, according to director Yuya Tokuda’s update message. Tokuda’s message on Steam
