To unlock more birds in Angry Birds 2, progress through Saga and follow the requirement shown for the specific bird or event. Recruitment is not the same as leveling: feathers can strengthen birds you already have, but they are not a universal unlock method. Rovio’s clearest recent example is Shade, whose announced recruitment opportunity required clearing Saga Level 22 and ran from March 11 through May 7, 2026; that offer has ended.
How bird unlocks work
Rovio describes building a flock by recruiting and leveling birds. Treat those as two separate steps: recruiting adds a bird to your available flock, while leveling improves a bird you already have. The official game page includes Shade in the roster, but the official material available does not provide a complete, current unlock chart for every bird. Rovio’s Angry Birds 2 page
- Open the game’s Saga path and continue clearing levels.
- When a locked bird or bird-specific event appears, open its prompt and follow the requirement shown there.
- If the prompt points to an event or shop, check that the offer is currently active before spending time or currency. Requirements and availability can differ by bird and may change over time.
Shade: the documented unlock route
Rovio announced that players who had cleared Saga Level 22 could recruit Shade permanently by collecting her feathers through special in-game events or purchasing them in the in-game shop. The announced opportunity ran March 11–May 7, 2026, and is no longer active. The announcement does not establish whether or when the same route will return, so check Shade’s current in-game prompt rather than assuming the 2026 offer is available. Rovio’s Shade announcement
Events can introduce birds, but offers are time-limited
Bird-specific events are one documented recruitment route. For example, Rovio introduced Melody through a feather event that ended December 4, 2022. That is evidence of a past event, not a current way to unlock Melody. Follow the live event information in your game for any present-day opportunity. Rovio’s Melody announcement

Use feathers to level birds you have recruited
Once a bird is in your flock, its matching feather color raises that bird’s card level. Rainbow Feathers can be assigned to any bird. This is a power-up system, not proof that collecting feathers alone will unlock every locked character. Rovio Support: What are feathers?
Rovio Support distinguishes Bird Power from Flock Power: Bird Power combines a bird’s hat, slingshot, card, and hatchling levels, while Flock Power is a combined measure for the active flock. A higher power figure is not the same thing as recruiting another bird. Rovio Support: What are feathers?

Hatchlings are not extra playable birds
A hatchling egg appears beside the slingshot, and the hatchling increases Flock Power. It is a progression boost, not another bird added to the playable flock. Rovio Support: What are hatchlings?

If a bird’s requirement is unclear
- Read the locked bird’s in-game prompt and any linked event details; use the requirement shown for that bird rather than borrowing another character’s instructions.
- Check whether the prompt describes recruitment or collecting feathers to level an owned bird.
- If the game’s route differs from an older announcement, treat the current prompt as guidance for your game and account. Rovio Support offers help categories covering learning the game, flock, shop, events, and troubleshooting: Angry Birds 2 Help Center.
