To unlock Phantom Jobs in Final Fantasy XIV, first complete the Dawntrail main scenario and reach level 100 on a Disciple of War or Magic. Then unlock Occult Crescent: South Horn through its opening quest chain. South Horn quests award some jobs; additional Phantom Jobs are acquired with soul shards from the island vendor or critical encounters.
How do I get to the Occult Crescent?
- Meet the prerequisites: Complete the Dawntrail main scenario and reach level 100 on a Disciple of War or Magic. Limited jobs do not meet the job requirement.
- Start the South Horn quest chain: Speak with the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal at (X:17.1, Y:11.8) to begin One Last Hurrah.
- Continue the story: Complete The Phantom Village, then Unfamiliar Territory.
- Enter the island: After completing Unfamiliar Territory, speak with Jeffroy in the Phantom Village at (X:4.5, Y:6.6) to enter Occult Crescent: South Horn.
The opening quest chain and entry requirements are listed in the official Patch 7.25 notes and the Lodestone Eorzea Database.

How do South Horn quests unlock Phantom Jobs?
Once in South Horn, follow its quest progression. The official Patch 7.25 notes say that progressing through South Horn quests grants access to different Phantom Jobs, beginning with New Job, Old Tricks. A community guide associates that quest with Phantom Knight, Phantom Monk, and Phantom Bard, alongside the initial Phantom Freelancer; those specific job names are corroborated by the guide rather than itemized in the official patch overview.
Where do I get soul shards?
For additional Phantom Jobs beyond those granted through quest progression, use soul shards. The official Patch 7.25 and 7.55 notes say shards can be purchased from a vendor on the isle or found in critical encounters. They do not provide a complete job-by-job list of shard requirements and sources, so check the relevant shard’s in-game description and current encounter rewards for the job you want.

How do Phantom Jobs level and switch?
Phantom Jobs other than Freelancer gain phantom EXP by defeating enemies and completing encounters on the island. Gaining levels unlocks actions and traits. Reaching a job’s maximum level grants Phantom Mastery; mastery remains active when you change to another Phantom Job, and its effects grow as you master more jobs.
Phantom Freelancer is the exception to ordinary phantom EXP progression: it levels as you master additional Phantom Jobs.

Patch 7.55 added North Horn content and more Phantom Jobs. To begin that route, take Occult Reunion from the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal at (X:17.2, Y:11.8); you must first complete Mysteries Abide, which follows the South Horn story progression. Jobs introduced in the later area also use the soul shard system. See the official Patch 7.55 notes and the Lodestone Eorzea Database.
