Unlock Super Sonic: the required steps
- Open the missions in your edition. Mission Mode and its mission schedules have progression requirements; on GameCube, the community unlock listing says Hero Story opens Mission Mode and Storm’s missions, while Wave and Jet missions require further story or mission progression. Details may differ by platform. See the GameCube mission unlock listing.
- Earn Gold on every Mission Mode mission. GameFAQs’ PlayStation 2 unlock records specify Gold rankings for the Jet, Storm, and Wave missions, and a separate entry says Gold on every mission unlocks the Chaos Emerald Gear. A GameCube walkthrough likewise lists Gold on all missions as the gear requirement. See the PS2 unlock records.
- Equip the Chaos Emerald Gear on Sonic. The unlock records describe Super Sonic as accessed by using the gear on Sonic; the GameCube walkthrough gives the same instruction. See the GameCube walkthrough.
- Begin a race with Sonic and that gear equipped. The documented method is a character-and-gear selection, not a mid-race transformation triggered by collecting rings.
Mission access depends on your platform and progress
The steps above apply to the original Sonic Riders, not Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity or a fan modification. SEGA lists the original game for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. SEGA’s Sonic Riders page confirms those platforms.

For GameCube, the cited community listing says Hero Story opens Mission Mode and Storm’s missions. Its listed requirements for Wave and Jet missions include additional story progression, Storm and Wave mission completion, and unlocking the two SEGA tracks. Check the mission schedule and unlock information for your own edition instead of assuming those exact prerequisites apply to every release.
The game’s PC manual confirms that Mission Mode involves clearing missions in sequence and becomes available after certain conditions, but it does not document the Super Sonic unlock recipe. Read the Sonic Riders manual.

What the unlock records establish
The consulted GameFAQs entries are community-submitted rather than official developer instructions. Their central sequence agrees: Gold rankings across the missions unlock the Chaos Emerald Gear, and equipping it on Sonic makes Super Sonic playable. The PS2 record names Jet, Storm, and Wave missions; the GameCube walkthrough describes the condition as Gold on all missions. These accounts support the all-mission requirement for those editions, but do not by themselves establish identical mission requirements for every version.
