To unlock the Path of Ambition in Destiny 2, start Nether: Explore while Path of Resolve is active, pick up the Tithing Wormspawn under the bridge in the red-lit Court of Blades starting room, complete Writ: Path of Ambition, then interact with the altar beside the Shaping Slab in Eris’s apartment.
Find the Tithing Wormspawn
- Start Nether: Explore with Path of Resolve active. The walkthrough route leads into the Hall of Souls and Court of Blades starting area. Destructoid’s walkthrough describes this route.
- In the red-lit room at the start of Court of Blades, look underneath the bridge and pick up the Tithing Wormspawn. This pickup triggers Writ: Path of Ambition. A community reference also identifies the Taken Worm beneath the Hall of Souls bridge as the mission trigger: Destinypedia’s Writ: Path of Ambition entry.
Complete Writ: Path of Ambition
Launch the Writ from the H.E.L.M. Director, then follow the mission through the Dreadnaught. The route involves Taken portals, a fight against a Hive Wizard and Acolytes, and a ritual plate at a corrupted doorway. After the transition, interact with the slab in the pocket dimension and survive the enemy waves. The walkthrough covers the mission sequence in its guide to Tithing Wormspawn.

Completing the Writ is required to unlock the path; the quest text names the Writ as the unlock objective. See DestinyTracker’s Act II: Rites of the Deep quest text.
Embrace Ambition at Eris’s apartment
After finishing the mission, return to Eris’s apartment. Interact with the altar beside the Shaping Slab when the prompt says “Embrace your Ambition.” The mission completion and this altar interaction are separate parts of the unlock; the steps are described in Destructoid’s walkthrough.

If the Shaping Slab still shows Resolve
A player reported on Bungie’s Help forum that using the nearby orb switched paths when the Shaping Slab showed the wrong one. Bungie support replied in the thread but did not provide a formal step-by-step fix, so treat the orb as a reported workaround rather than a guaranteed solution: Bungie Help forum: “Writ: Path of Ambition unavailable”.
What comes after the unlock?
The next objective listed in the Act II quest text is Trial of Will: Ambition at the Shrine of Oryx on the Moon. That is follow-on progression, not part of unlocking the path itself. The quest text lists the objective.

If you cannot find the activity or pickup
The walkthrough was published on March 13, 2025 and updated on March 14, 2025; the cited sources do not establish whether Bungie changed access or steps after that. Check the live quest text in-game if Nether: Explore or the worm pickup is missing.
