To reach the Pirate Lord in Sea of Thieves, first become a Pirate Legend: reach rank 50 with three different Trading Companies. Then speak to the Mysterious Stranger and learn the Shanty of Legends; play it near the Hideout entrance to enter Athena’s Fortune and find the Pirate Lord. This unlock is for the Hideout and its content, not the Pirate Lord as a playable character.
1. Reach Pirate Legend status
The official Sea of Thieves player guide describes the requirement as rank 50 with three different Trading Companies. The guide was published in 2020, so use the in-game reputation and promotions screens to confirm your current progress and which companies count; the guide does not provide a current eligible-company list.

- Open the in-game reputation or promotions screens and check your rank with each Trading Company.
- Build reputation until three different companies reach rank 50.
- Once eligible, follow the in-game prompts to confirm or claim Pirate Legend status.
2. Learn the Shanty of Legends
Find the Mysterious Stranger and speak with them about the Shanty of Legends. The Mysterious Stranger reference describes the Stranger as assessing a pirate’s reputation and teaching the shanty to those deemed fit.
3. Enter Athena’s Fortune and find the Pirate Lord
Play the Shanty of Legends near the Hideout entrance to open the way into Athena’s Fortune. The Pirate Lord is inside and offers Athena Voyages. The official player guide describes Athena’s Fortune as a Hideout where Pirate Legends can socialise and purchase exclusive goods.

Does Safer Seas change the unlock?
The official Safer Seas FAQ lists restrictions on Athena’s Fortune commendations, including an example that requires Pirate Legend status. It does not establish that the basic Hideout unlock is restricted to High Seas. Check the FAQ for the current commendation limits if you play Safer Seas.
