To unlock the Red Soldier Ant Buggy in Grounded 2, complete the Missed Connection quest, buy the Hatchery blueprint for 500 Raw Science, build the Hatchery, and incubate a Red Soldier Ant egg for 12 in-game hours. The egg is in the Hatchery Anthill, and carrying it back prevents you from attacking, so plan the return before you pick it up.
Unlock the Hatchery first
- Complete the Missed Connection quest. The current unlock guide identifies it as the prerequisite for the Hatchery route.
- Visit the Science Shop and buy the Hatchery blueprint for 500 Raw Science. Build the Hatchery at your base.
Find and retrieve a Red Soldier Ant egg
A 2025 PC Gamer walkthrough describes this route through the Hatchery Anthill:
- Enter through the south entrance.
- Take the left path downhill, following the cables and tube.
- At the ladder and light, turn left.
- At the Ominent checkpoint fork, go left and follow the cables toward the red light.
- Enter the facility and take an egg from the small metal trolley at the back of the cave.
Once you pick up the egg, you cannot attack, according to the walkthrough. Clear or avoid threats along the route before taking it, then retrace your path out through the facility and anthill.
Incubate the egg in your Hatchery
Place the Red Soldier Ant egg in the Hatchery and allow 12 in-game hours for it to hatch, as listed in the current unlock guide. A 2025 walkthrough lists two grub hides, three sprigs, and one acorn shell as incubation ingredients, but that recipe predates later updates. Check the Hatchery’s current in-game recipe rather than relying on those older ingredient counts.

What to expect after the unlock
The Red Soldier Ant is presented as an early option for travel, gathering, and hauling. Its initial hatch is only the start of buggy progression: Obsidian’s April 14, 2026 update describes progression that can improve buggy health, damage, effectiveness, gathering, and support. The update also introduced the Buffin’ Barrel for evolving a buggy to a higher tier and added the Black Soldier Ant Buggy. Those upgrades are separate from the initial Red Soldier Ant hatch sequence.
Grounded 2 remains in Early Access, according to Obsidian’s April 14, 2026 update. The unlock steps and figures above come from a guide dated August 11, 2026; if a patch has changed access or recipes, check your quest log and the Hatchery’s current prompts.
