Roblox stretches displayed thumbnails to 16:9, so using that ratio helps prevent distortion. The 1920 × 1080 recommendation is intended to keep the image sharp across the Roblox site and app.
Recommended Roblox thumbnail size
For an experience thumbnail, create a landscape image at 1920 × 1080 pixels. That resolution is Roblox’s stated ideal for high-resolution display, and it matches the required 16:9 shape. See Roblox Creator Hub’s thumbnail documentation.
Roblox says displayed thumbnails are stretched to 16:9 regardless of the uploaded image’s ratio. A file with a different shape may therefore look squeezed or elongated. Prepare it at 16:9 before uploading rather than relying on Roblox’s display adjustment.
Thumbnail versus experience icon
A thumbnail is a wide image that showcases an experience; an icon is a square image used to identify it. They have different dimensions and should not be substituted for one another.

File size, formats, and placement
For Home Page thumbnail personalization
If you are setting up thumbnail personalization on the Home Page, Roblox’s instructions specify images at 1920 × 1080 pixels and under 3 MB. Treat that file-size guidance as specific to this workflow rather than as a universal upload limit.

Personalization lets creators activate 2–5 thumbnails. Roblox assigns thumbnails to random user groups, measures qualified play-through rate, and shifts more impressions toward the winning thumbnail while continuing some exploration. This process does not guarantee improved performance.
Supported formats and detail-page uploads
Roblox lists .jpg, .gif, .png, .tga, and .bmp as supported image formats. An experience detail page can have up to 10 images or videos; you can reorder or remove uploads and add alt text. Uploaded images and videos are moderated for compliance with Roblox’s Community Rules and Terms of Use.

How to upload or manage a thumbnail
- Open the experience in Creator Dashboard.
- Go to Configure → Places and select a place.
- Choose Thumbnails, then use the Home Page or Experience Detail Page tab to manage placement.
Design tip: keep the bottom edge clear
Roblox cautions that player-count metadata can cover important text or visual details near the bottom of a thumbnail. Keep essential content away from that edge so it remains visible in the interface.
