The Helios 300 name covers several PH315 and PH317 generations, so the serial number, SNID or complete model code—not just “Helios 300”—must determine the download. Correct drivers can resolve missing devices, audio failures, crashes and compatibility problems, but no official source promises a universal FPS increase.
This guide shows how to identify your machine, choose the safest source, install chipset, graphics, audio and other packages, recover from a failed update, and decide when BIOS or firmware work is appropriate.

Why the exact Helios 300 model matters
Acer sold the Predator Helios 300 under multiple PH315 and PH317 configurations, with different processors, graphics adapters, wireless cards, audio components and supported Windows editions. A package built for one generation can be unsuitable for another. Installing a driver merely because its name contains “Helios 300” is therefore risky.
Open Settings > System > About and record the processor, installed RAM, Windows edition and version. Then check the label on the underside of the laptop or the information shown in Acer Care Center for the full model identifier, such as PH315-55. Acer’s Drivers and Manuals page accepts a serial number, SNID or model number and also offers a Windows detection utility. Use one of those identifiers before downloading anything.

As an example of how much the catalog can vary, Acer’s indexed PH315-55 Windows 11 64-bit listing showed 47 driver packages, 10 BIOS/firmware packages and five applications. That count applies to that model and operating-system filter, not to every Helios 300.
Prepare Windows before installing a driver
- Connect the AC adapter. A shutdown during firmware or driver installation can leave the device unusable.
- Save open work and close games, launchers, recording software and hardware-monitoring utilities.
- Create a restore point: search for Create a restore point, open the result, choose your system drive, select Configure if protection is off, then click Turn on system protection and Create.
- Write down the current driver version in Device Manager. Expand a category, right-click the device, choose Properties > Driver, and record Driver Version and Driver Date.
- Keep at least several gigabytes of free space so the installer can unpack temporary files and Windows can create recovery data.
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. If your Helios 300 supports Windows 11, moving to a supported edition is a separate decision from installing a driver; do not force a Windows 11 package onto an unsupported Windows 10 installation.

Choose the right update source

Method 1: Update through Windows Update
Microsoft states that “Windows Update is the recommended way to get the latest audio drivers.” It is also the normal first route for other supported device updates.
- Open Settings > Windows Update. On Windows 11, select Check for updates. Install available quality, cumulative and driver updates, then restart when Windows asks.
- For optional packages, open Advanced options > Optional updates > Driver updates. Review the device name before selecting an item; do not install a package for hardware your laptop does not have.
- After the restart, test the game or device that prompted the update. Check Settings > System > Sound for audio and Device Manager for warning icons.
- If Windows Update reports that everything is current but a device still fails, use Acer’s model page rather than repeatedly forcing the same scan.
Method 2: Install a package from Acer
1. Identify and filter the support page
- Open Acer’s Drivers and Manuals page and enter the serial number, SNID or complete model number. If you use the detection utility, confirm that the result matches the label on the laptop.
- Select the installed Windows edition and architecture. The PH315-55 listing, for example, has a Windows 11 64-bit filter; that does not make its files correct for every PH315 or PH317.
- Record the package name, version and release date before downloading. Acer’s catalog can contain several releases for the same component.
2. Select the component you actually need
- Chipset: install when Windows has unidentified motherboard devices or after a clean operating-system installation.
- Graphics: use the package matching the integrated or discrete GPU shown in Device Manager. A graphics package can address crashes or compatibility issues, but it is not a guaranteed performance upgrade.
- Audio: choose the Realtek or other audio package listed for your model. On Acer’s PH315-55 page, one Realtek release is version 6.0.9514.1 dated September 18, 2023; older releases remain model-specific and should not be treated as universal.
- Wireless, Bluetooth and LAN: install only the adapter packages corresponding to the hardware in your laptop.
- Applications: PredatorSense entries are applications, not interchangeable drivers. Install the version listed for your model and Windows edition.
3. Install and restart
- Download the package to a known folder. If Acer supplies a compressed archive, extract it before running the installer.
- Right-click the setup file and choose Run as administrator if the installer requests elevation. Read each prompt; do not cancel a firmware process once it has started.
- Restart Windows even if the installer does not insist. Microsoft recommends restarting after a manual driver installation so the new service and device configuration can load.
- Return to Device Manager > device > Properties > Driver and verify the version. Check Events for a recent installation record and test the affected game or peripheral.
If the audio stopped working after a Windows update
Acer’s Helios audio guidance starts with a restart. Do that before removing devices or changing firmware; a pending reboot can leave the audio service and driver out of sync.

- Restart from Start > Power > Restart, not just sleep or hibernation.
- Open Settings > System > Sound. Confirm that the intended output device is selected, the volume is not muted, and an external monitor or Bluetooth headset has not become the default.
- Run the built-in audio troubleshooter from Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Audio and apply only changes you understand.
- In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers. If the audio device has a warning icon, right-click it and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If Windows Update did not restore sound, download the audio package from the exact Acer model page, install it, and restart again. Do not substitute a Realtek package from a different Helios generation.
- If the failure began immediately after a driver change, open the device’s Properties > Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver when that button is available. If it is unavailable, use Uninstall device, restart, and then install the Acer package; select a removal option only when Windows presents it and you have the correct replacement ready.
- Test both the built-in speakers and the headphone jack. If neither appears in Windows after the correct package and restart, the problem may be hardware or a board-level fault rather than a driver version.
Graphics, chipset and network problems
Games crash, stutter or show a missing GPU
Confirm the GPU names under Device Manager > Display adapters. Install the Acer graphics package matched to that model, restart, and check the driver version. If a new package introduces crashes, roll back from the same Driver tab or reinstall the previous Acer release listed for the model. Keep game settings unchanged while testing so you can tell a driver effect from a graphics-options change.
Unknown devices remain after Windows installation
An unknown device usually indicates a missing chipset, serial-I/O or platform component. Install Acer’s chipset and platform packages in the order shown on the model page, restart, and rescan Device Manager with Action > Scan for hardware changes. Do not choose a package solely by a similar device name.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Ethernet disappeared
Check Device Manager > Network adapters and Bluetooth. If the adapter is disabled, choose Enable device first. If it is missing or marked with an error, use another computer to download the matching Acer package to a USB drive, install it locally, restart, and then test the connection. Windows Update can supply a broader replacement later, but Acer’s model package is the safer first match when the adapter is not functioning.

Acer lists BIOS and firmware alongside ordinary drivers, but flashing firmware is not routine gaming maintenance or an FPS tweak. Use it only when Acer’s notes for your exact model describe a fix you need or direct you to install it as part of a documented support procedure.

- Verify the complete model, current BIOS revision and Windows edition against the package name.
- Read every instruction attached to that Acer package. Requirements such as AC power, a charged battery, a particular installation method or a restart sequence are model-specific.
- Disconnect unnecessary peripherals, close programs and do not press the power button while the update is running.
- After completion, enter the firmware setup only if Acer instructs you to verify a setting. Otherwise let Windows boot and confirm the BIOS revision in Acer’s utility or the firmware screen.
Never use a BIOS file from a similar-looking PH315 or PH317 model. If a firmware process fails, stop experimenting and contact Acer support or a qualified repair service with the exact model and package details.
Will updating drivers increase FPS?
Sometimes a driver update removes a crash, restores a disabled GPU or improves compatibility with a game or Windows build. Those changes can make play feel smoother because the previous state was malfunctioning. They do not establish a repeatable FPS gain for every Helios 300.
The cited Acer and Microsoft material provides no independent benchmark or official FPS-uplift percentage. Judge the result by a reproducible before-and-after test: use the same game scene, resolution, graphics settings, power mode and background applications, and record average and one-percent-low frame rates with the same monitoring tool. If performance is already stable, update for security, compatibility or a documented fix rather than expecting extra frames.

Recover from a failed or unsuitable installation
- Installer says the driver is incompatible: stop and recheck the model code and Windows filter. Do not force installation.
- Device works worse after updating: use Device Manager > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver, or reinstall the prior Acer release.
- Windows starts with a warning icon: open the device properties, read the error code, uninstall the device, restart, and install the exact Acer package.
- Several devices fail after a major Windows update: run System Restore to the point created before the driver change, then install packages one at a time so the offending component is identifiable.
- The laptop will not boot after BIOS work: do not attempt another model’s firmware. Use Acer’s recovery instructions for that exact machine or seek service.
A practical maintenance routine
- Check Windows Update monthly and restart when required.
- Keep a short record of each Acer package’s component, version, release date and installation date.
- Before a major game release or Windows upgrade, create a restore point and confirm that the current graphics and network drivers are available from Acer.
- Update one component at a time, beginning with the device that is actually failing.
- Leave BIOS and firmware alone unless Acer’s model-specific notes give you a reason and a procedure.
