Download the HP Officejet Pro 8620 driver from HP’s official HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads page, selecting the Windows edition and version installed on your computer. For Windows 10 and Windows 11, Windows Update is also a supported installation route. If Windows cannot detect the printer, verify power and the USB or Wi‑Fi connection, then update or remove and reinstall the printer driver.
Where to download the HP Officejet Pro 8620 driver
Use HP’s model-specific support page rather than a third-party driver site. Open the HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads page, select the Windows operating system and version that are actually installed, and download the package HP offers for that selection. The selector lists Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11 choices, but the presence of a choice in the menu does not itself guarantee that a complete 8620 package is available for every region or edition.

HP’s own warning is important: “If your operating system is not listed then HP may not provide driver support for your product with that operating system.” Treat the result shown after you select your system as the authority at the time you download. Do not substitute a package for a different Windows release simply because its name looks similar.
Check your Windows release first
- Press
Windows+R, typewinver, and press Enter. Record the Windows name and version displayed. - In Windows 11, open Settings > System > About. In Windows 10, open Settings > System > About. Confirm the edition and system type shown there.
- Return to HP’s selector and choose the matching Windows option. If HP presents an architecture choice, select the architecture reported by Windows rather than guessing.
Will the 8620 work with Windows 10 or Windows 11?
HP’s download selector includes Windows 10 and Windows 11 choices, while Microsoft identifies Windows Update as a supported way to obtain printer drivers on those systems. Actual package availability can change by product, region and operating-system edition, so check what HP offers after making your selection. A Windows 11 entry is not proof that a full-feature 8620 package is available for every configuration.

Choose the right installation route

Microsoft’s installation guidance says, “The recommended method to download and install the latest printer drivers is using Windows Update.” Use that route when a normal print queue is all you need. Use HP’s page when Windows Update does not find the 8620, when scanning is required, or when the full feature package is specifically offered.
Install the HP package manually
- Prepare the printer. Turn on the Officejet Pro 8620 and clear any message on its display. If you are using USB, leave the cable available but disconnect it until the installer asks for it. For Wi‑Fi, make sure the printer is connected to the same wireless network as the PC.
- Download from HP. On the official 8620 driver page, select your Windows version and architecture when requested. Download the package listed for that selection and save it somewhere easy to find, such as Downloads.
- Start setup with the correct permissions. Open the downloaded file and allow Windows to run the installer. Follow HP’s prompts instead of launching an older 8620 installer that may already be on the computer.
- Select the connection type. Choose USB when the printer is directly cabled to the PC, or choose the network/Wi‑Fi option when the printer is on your local network. Connect the USB cable only when setup requests it.
- Let the installer detect the queue. If the 8620 appears, select it and continue. If it does not, stop and work through the detection checks below rather than repeatedly installing the same package.
- Install optional components deliberately. If the package offers scanning or other model-specific utilities, select them only if you need those functions. A basic print-only installation may be sufficient for a computer that never scans.
- Finish and restart if requested. Allow setup to create the printer queue. Restart Windows when the installer asks, then print a test page from the printer’s entry in Windows settings.
- Test each required function. Printing and scanning can use different components. Confirm printing first, then open the installed HP scanning utility or Windows scan workflow if you selected scan support.
Install or refresh the driver through Windows Update
- Connect and power on the printer. For Wi‑Fi, verify that the PC and printer are on the same network; for USB, connect the cable directly and make sure Windows reacts to the connection.
- In Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners. In Windows 10, open Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device (or Add a printer or scanner) and wait while Windows searches. Choose the Officejet Pro 8620 if it appears.
- Run Windows Update from Settings > Windows Update and install available printer-driver updates. Restart if Windows requests it.
- Open the printer’s settings and print a test page. If the printer works but scanning or a model-specific feature is missing, return to HP’s 8620 page and install the full feature package offered for your Windows selection.
What to do after a Windows upgrade
A major Windows upgrade can affect an existing printer driver. HP advises installing updated drivers before an upgrade and checking them again afterward. Before upgrading, note whether the 8620 currently prints and scans, and keep the matching HP package available. After the upgrade, revisit the HP selector, confirm that Windows still shows the expected printer queue, and run a test print. If a feature stopped working, update the driver or perform the clean reinstall procedure rather than assuming the old package remains compatible.

When Windows cannot find the Officejet Pro 8620
USB connection
- Confirm that the printer is powered on and not paused by an error shown on its display.
- Reseat the USB cable at both ends.
- Move the cable to another USB port on the computer and run the add-printer search again.
- If Windows still does not list the printer, update the driver or remove and reinstall it as described below.
Wi‑Fi or network connection
- Check the printer’s network status and confirm that it is connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as the Windows PC. A guest network or different wireless name can prevent discovery.
- Restart the printer and retry Add device after the network connection is restored.
- If discovery fails, install the HP package and choose the network connection option so the setup can search for the printer again.
A queue exists but printing fails
- Open the printer in Printers & scanners and check that it is not offline or paused.
- Run Windows Update to refresh the driver.
- If the queue remains unusable, remove the printer and reinstall the HP package so Windows creates a new queue.
Cleanly uninstall and reinstall the driver
A clean reinstall is appropriate when an old package is corrupted, when several 8620 queues point to the wrong connection, or when an update leaves the printer unusable.

- Disconnect the USB cable if the printer uses USB. Leave a network printer powered on but do not start a new installation yet.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners in Windows 11, or Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners in Windows 10. Select every obsolete Officejet Pro 8620 queue and choose Remove.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Apps & features in Windows 10) and uninstall the HP printer software associated with the old installation, if it is listed.
- Restart Windows. This clears the old queue before a new driver is registered.
- Download the current package shown on HP’s 8620 page for the installed Windows version and run it.
- Choose USB or network setup when prompted, allow the installer to create one new queue, and print a test page.
If Windows keeps displaying a duplicate queue after removal, delete the duplicates before reinstalling and select only the queue created by the fresh package. Installing over several stale queues can make it unclear which driver Windows is using.

Confirm that the installation is complete
- The Officejet Pro 8620 appears once under the Windows printer list and is not marked offline.
- A Windows test page prints without an error.
- The print preferences show the options you need, such as paper size and color settings supplied by the installed package.
- If you installed scanning support, the HP scanning utility or Windows scan workflow can see the device.
- The connection remains available after a restart; if it disappears, repeat the USB-port or same-Wi‑Fi checks rather than downloading a driver from an unofficial site.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Choosing by printer name alone: select the Windows version and architecture first; do not install an 8620 package intended for another release.
- Assuming Windows 11 support from the menu: the selector’s offered package, not the menu entry, determines what HP currently supports.
- Expecting Windows Update to install every utility: it may supply a basic print driver without HP’s full scanning or model-specific software.
- Keeping a damaged package: when updates do not help, remove the queue and associated software, restart, and install a fresh package.
- Using a third-party driver download: prefer HP’s official package or Windows Update so the source and target operating system are clear.
