Use the Xbox Accessories app on an Xbox console or Windows PC to check for and install an available firmware update for your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Connect the controller, open the app, select it if it appears, and follow the prompts shown there.
Update the controller with Xbox Accessories
Xbox names the Xbox Accessories app as the route for obtaining controller firmware updates. In its June 12, 2024 announcement, Xbox said: “Grab this update from the Xbox Accessories app on the Xbox console or your Windows PC.” The app’s available features depend on the platform, but Xbox lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11 as supported for relevant controller customization features on the Elite Series 2 product page.
- On an Xbox console or Windows 10/11 PC, open the Xbox Accessories app.
- Connect the Elite Series 2 controller and select it in the app if it is shown.
- Follow the app’s current prompts to check for and install an available update. If no update is offered, the app is not presenting a firmware update for installation at that time.
Choose the platform you already use

The sources do not establish that one platform updates faster, whether a wireless connection is suitable for every update, or a specific recovery procedure if installation fails. Use the prompts in the app rather than relying on outdated menu names or instructions.
What a firmware update may change
Firmware updates can address controller behavior, but a dated example is not a guarantee about a current release. Xbox’s June 2024 announcement described improved wireless disconnect behavior for Elite Series 2 controllers when a headset was connected to the controller’s 3.5 mm audio port. That announcement does not identify the latest firmware version or establish that a currently offered update will resolve a particular problem.

Do you need a USB-C cable?
Xbox lists a USB-C cable among the controller’s included components. You do not need to buy a replacement simply to follow the update path described above; consider one only if the included cable is missing or unusable. The cited Xbox sources do not specify that a cable is required for every update.
