To update Minecraft Bedrock on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, close the game, open Microsoft Store, select Library, then choose Get updates (or the equivalent update-check button). On PC, Bedrock is listed as Minecraft for Windows. The Java Edition update selector in the Minecraft Launcher is separate.
Update Minecraft for Windows through Microsoft Store
- Close Minecraft.
- Open Microsoft Store from the Windows Start menu.
- Select Library. Depending on the Store layout, it may appear in the lower-left or the left-side navigation.
- Select Get updates, Check for updates, or the current equivalent label. Microsoft’s official instructions use similar wording, but the button name can vary between Store versions.
- Wait for Microsoft Store to check installed apps and install the Minecraft update.
- Launch Minecraft for Windows again.
This is the official Windows update route described by Minecraft’s update instructions. Microsoft Store may update apps automatically, but manually checking Library is the most dependable way to look for a pending update.

Make sure you are updating Bedrock, not Java
On Windows, the Bedrock product is called Minecraft for Windows. Minecraft: Java Edition is a separate edition, even though many PC purchases include both editions in the Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC package.
The Minecraft Launcher’s Java profile includes options such as Latest Release. Choosing that option updates or launches Java Edition; it does not update the Microsoft Store installation of Bedrock. In the Launcher, select Minecraft for Windows if you want to launch Bedrock.

If you use the Minecraft Launcher
The Launcher is a PC game hub, while Microsoft Store is normally responsible for updating Minecraft for Windows.
- Open the official Minecraft Launcher.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Minecraft purchase or license.
- Select Minecraft for Windows, not Java Edition.
- If the Launcher displays an Update button, select it and follow the prompts.
- If no game update appears, close and reopen the Launcher, then use Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates.
Updating the Launcher itself is a separate action. The official download page identifies Launcher → Settings → About as the place to check for Launcher updates when that option is available. You can also install or reinstall the Launcher through Microsoft Store or the official Minecraft download page.
How to check whether Minecraft updated
- Start Minecraft for Windows and check the version number on the title screen or main menu.
- Compare it with the version required by the server, Realm, or friends’ devices.
- If multiplayer says your client is outdated, fully close Minecraft and the Launcher, then reopen them.
Do not rely on a permanent “latest version” number in a guide. Bedrock receives numbered releases and hotfixes that change over time. For example, Mojang published Bedrock hotfix 26.32 on June 25, 2026; that is a dated example, not a permanent current-version claim. Check the official Bedrock changelog for current release information.
Microsoft Store does not show an update
Try these fixes in order, starting with the least disruptive.
1. Check the Microsoft account
Confirm that Microsoft Store is signed in with the account that owns or has access to Minecraft for Windows. Also check that the Launcher is using the same license-bearing account. If the Store says you do not own the game, do not buy it again immediately; resolve the account or license mismatch first.

2. Refresh the Library
Open Microsoft Store, go to Library, select the update-check button, and leave the Store open for several minutes while it checks installed apps.
3. Restart Microsoft Store and Windows
Close Microsoft Store and the Launcher, reopen the Store, and run the Library check again. If it remains stuck, restart Windows and retry.

4. Install pending Windows updates
Check Windows Update and complete any pending restart. An outdated or waiting Windows installation can interfere with Microsoft Store app updates, although not every Minecraft update requires a particular Windows build.
5. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Press Enter.
- Wait for Microsoft Store to reopen, then try Library → Get updates again.
This resets the Store cache; it is not a Minecraft-specific updater and does not delete Minecraft worlds.
6. Repair Minecraft for Windows
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find Minecraft for Windows.
- Open its menu or Advanced options.
- Select Repair first.
Windows labels can vary. Use Reset only as a later step, and back up important local worlds first. Do not assume that Reset or uninstalling the game is risk-free for locally stored data.

If the Minecraft Launcher will not open
- Try updating Minecraft for Windows directly through Microsoft Store.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Microsoft Store and update Minecraft Launcher if it appears in Library.
- In the Launcher, check Settings → About for an available Launcher update.
- Repair the Launcher through Windows app settings.
- If necessary, reinstall it from Microsoft Store or the official Minecraft download page.
- Sign in again with the correct Microsoft account.
Avoid third-party “Minecraft updaters,” cracked launchers, and unofficial executables. They are unnecessary for updating Bedrock and can put your account or PC at risk.

A missing update is not always a Store problem. Bedrock releases become available on each platform as that platform approves them, so Windows can receive an update before or after a phone or console. Mojang’s hotfix notes document this platform-dependent rollout process; the 26.21 hotfix notes provide another dated example.
If friends have the update but your Windows Store does not, check the official changelog, retry later, and avoid repeatedly reinstalling the game. A short rollout delay does not necessarily mean the installation is broken.

Normal updating should preserve worlds, settings, Marketplace content, and account data. However, add-ons and resource packs can become incompatible with a new Bedrock release. If the updated game crashes or a world loads incorrectly:
- Temporarily disable recently installed add-ons or resource packs.
- Try opening another world or creating a test world.
- Check the relevant official changelog for add-on, resource-pack, or world-related fixes.
- Do not use Reset, uninstall the game, or change storage settings until important local worlds are backed up.
Do not assume every add-on will remain compatible after every Bedrock update. Mojang’s Bedrock changelog documents compatibility-related fixes and illustrates why add-ons can be involved in post-update problems.
