To update RocketMod safely, stop your Unturned server, back up its files, replace the existing Rocket.Unturned module with the current copy, restart the server, and check the console. The official dedicated-server files already include the maintained module: copy Extras/Rocket.Unturned into Modules/Rocket.Unturned. You can also use RocketModFix’s release package or Auto-Installer, or a supported hosting panel’s RocketMod installation action.

What “RocketMod” means on current Unturned servers
The original RocketMod community maintenance ended in 2019. Smartly Dressed Games continued the compatible server framework under the name Legally Distinct Missile (LDM), although server owners and plugin authors commonly still call the module RocketMod. The dedicated Unturned server distribution includes the current compatible module in its Extras directory, so an external download is not required for the official update route.

Before replacing anything
A module replacement is quick, but doing it while the process is running can leave incomplete or locked files. Perform the preparation in this order:

- Announce a maintenance window. Warn players and allow enough time for a clean shutdown and a verification start.
- Stop the Unturned server cleanly. Use the server console or your host’s stop control and wait until the process has exited. Do not overwrite the module while the server is still loading plugins.
- Back up the server directory. Include the current module, configuration files, worlds, and the
Rocket/Plugins/directory. A dated copy lets you restore the previous module if startup fails. - Record the existing layout. In a normal installation, the relevant paths are
Unturned/Extras/Rocket.Unturned,Unturned/Modules/Rocket.Unturned, andUnturned/Rocket/Plugins/. Your host may place the root elsewhere, but the relationship betweenExtrasandModulesremains the same. - Check plugin requirements. Make a list of plugins that are critical to your server and note their supported Rocket/LDM or Unturned versions. Updating the core module does not replace plugin binaries or update their dependencies.
Method 1: Copy the module shipped with the dedicated server
This is the official Smartly Dressed Games procedure and normally has the least ambiguity because the module is distributed with the same dedicated-server files.
Step 1: Find the two directories
Open the dedicated-server installation and locate Extras/Rocket.Unturned. Then open the sibling Modules directory. The destination should be the server’s existing Modules folder, not the client game’s module directory or the Rocket/Plugins folder.
Step 2: Copy the current folder
Copy the entire Rocket.Unturned folder from Extras. Preserve the folder and all files inside it; do not copy only an individual DLL.
Step 3: Replace the old module
Paste the copied folder into Modules. When the file manager asks whether to merge or replace files, choose the replacement option. The final layout must be:
Modules/Rocket.Unturned/
There must not be an extra level such as Modules/Rocket.Unturned/Rocket.Unturned/. Incorrect nesting is one of the most common reasons the module appears not to load.
Step 4: Start the server
Start the server normally after the copy has completed. If you use a service manager or panel, wait for its status to show that the process is running before testing gameplay.

Step 5: Read the startup console
Watch the complete startup sequence for Rocket/LDM module messages, plugin load messages, and exceptions. A successful module load does not guarantee that every older plugin remains compatible, so treat plugin errors separately.
Method 2: Use RocketModFix releases
RocketModFix provides a release-download route for administrators who do not have the desired module in their server files or who prefer a package designed specifically for Rocket updates. Stop the server and keep the backup made above before using either option.
Standard RocketModFix package
- Remove the existing
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedfolder after the server has stopped. Removing the old folder avoids leaving obsolete files beside the new release. - Download the latest
Rocket.Unturned.Module.zipfrom the RocketModFix releases. - Extract the archive locally. Confirm that the extracted content contains a folder named
Rocket.Unturned. - Copy that folder into the server’s
Modulesdirectory. If the operating system asks whether to replace files, accept the replacement. - Start the server and inspect the console for module initialization and plugin exceptions.
Do not extract the ZIP so that the archive’s outer directory becomes an additional path level. The folder directly under Modules must be Rocket.Unturned.
RocketModFix Auto-Installer
RocketModFix also distributes Rocket.AutoInstaller.zip. Install that package according to its release instructions while the server is stopped. After installation, a server restart allows the installer to receive Rocket updates without manually replacing the module each time. Keep a backup before the first automated update and check the console after every restart; automation changes the file operation, not the need to validate plugin compatibility.
Method 3: Update from a hosting control panel
Some game hosts expose RocketMod installation as a panel action. On Host Havoc’s documented workflow, log in to the game control panel, select Install Rocketmod, and restart the server. The provider states that this action overwrites RocketMod files while preserving existing plugins and configuration files.

- Stop the server if the panel does not do so automatically.
- Download a complete backup or use the panel’s backup feature.
- Read the confirmation text to determine whether the action overwrites only the module or reinstalls additional files.
- After the action reports completion, restart the server manually if required and review the console.
If the panel reports success but Rocket does not load, use its file manager or SFTP access to verify that Modules/Rocket.Unturned exists directly under Modules. A panel operation cannot correct a separately misplaced folder or an incompatible plugin.

The module and plugins are separate. Deleting the Rocket/Plugins/ directory is not part of the update procedure and would remove your installed plugins.

Confirm the files before launch
- Check that
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedis a real folder, not a ZIP file. - Check that it is not nested one directory too deep.
- Compare the module’s manifest or release information with the current maintained version you intended to install. The 4.9.3.18 manifest is a 2026 snapshot, not a promise that every later server package will carry the same number.
Confirm the server after launch
- Wait for the server to finish its normal startup sequence.
- Look for the Rocket/LDM module load entry.
- Look for each plugin’s load result and record any exception, missing dependency, or version warning.
- Join the server with an administrator account and test one command or feature supplied by a critical plugin.
- Check that the world, permissions, and configuration values remain as expected.
Do not interpret a clean module message as proof that all plugins are compatible. Plugin assemblies may target a different API or depend on libraries that are no longer present.
Plugin compatibility after a Rocket update
Rocket plugins are installed under Rocket/Plugins/ and are not automatically upgraded when you replace Modules/Rocket.Unturned. If a plugin fails after the update, identify that plugin in the console and consult its own release notes and dependency requirements. Install a compatible plugin build separately, following the plugin author’s instructions.
Typical compatibility symptoms
- A plugin is listed as failed or skipped during startup.
- The console reports a missing method, assembly, or dependency.
- A plugin loads but its commands do nothing or produce runtime exceptions.
- Only one plugin fails while the Rocket/LDM module itself reports a successful load.
These symptoms point to a plugin-specific compatibility problem rather than a reason to delete every plugin. Keep unaffected plugins in place, update or temporarily disable the identified plugin, and restart to confirm the diagnosis.
Troubleshooting decision guide
Rocket does not load at all
- Stop the server again.
- Open the installation’s
Modulesdirectory and confirm the exact path isModules/Rocket.Unturned. - Move any accidentally nested copy up one level so the module folder itself is directly under
Modules. - Make sure you copied the complete folder rather than a single file or the unopened ZIP.
- Start the server and recheck the console.
The panel says the update completed, but files are unchanged
Use the panel’s file manager or SFTP to inspect modification dates and the folder contents. Confirm that the action ran against the correct server instance, then restart as the provider documents. If the panel cannot expose the module files, restore from your backup and ask the host to verify the installation action.

Plugins fail after the module update
Read the first plugin-related error, not just the final cascade of messages. Check that plugin’s supported Rocket/LDM and Unturned versions, required dependencies, and latest release. Update that plugin independently or disable it temporarily. Do not repeatedly replace the core module when the console identifies a plugin binary as the failing component.
The server will not start after replacement
Stop the service, preserve the startup log, and restore the backed-up Modules/Rocket.Unturned folder. If the server starts with the old module, the new files or their compatibility with the current server build are the likely cause. You can then test the maintained release again during a maintenance window after checking its requirements.
Rollback and routine maintenance
A rollback is simply the reverse of the replacement: stop the server, move the current Modules/Rocket.Unturned folder out of the way, restore the backed-up folder to that exact path, and restart. Keep the configuration and world backup separate from the module backup so you can restore only the component that caused the failure.

For future updates, keep a short change record containing the date, source used (official Extras, RocketModFix package, Auto-Installer, or panel), module version, and any plugin changes. This makes it possible to identify which update introduced a problem without deleting working data.

Use the official Extras copy when you have filesystem access and want the module shipped with the dedicated server. Use RocketModFix when its release or Auto-Installer fits your maintenance process. Use a panel action when your host documents it and you have confirmed how it handles backups and existing files.

Do I need to delete my plugins?
No. Plugins live in Rocket/Plugins/, while the module lives in Modules/Rocket.Unturned. Leave plugins in place and update only those that show compatibility errors or have a newer required release.

Is the 4.9.3.18 version always the one I should install?
It is the version shown by the 2026 manifest snapshot. Module versions can change, so use the latest maintained files supplied with your dedicated-server installation or the current maintained release at the time you perform the update.

Can I replace the module while players are online?
No. Stop the server first, wait for the process to exit, replace the files, and restart. Replacing active files risks locked or partial contents and gives you no reliable point at which to validate the module.
