Update Splatoon 3 manually
- Connect your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet.
- On the HOME Menu, highlight the Splatoon 3 icon without starting the game.
- Press the + or − button on the controller.
- Select Software Update, then Via the Internet.
- Wait for the download and installation to finish, then open the game and check the version number on its title screen.
Nintendo’s Splatoon 3 update instructions note that the console needs enough free space for the update, but do not specify a download size or minimum amount of space.

Let the console update the game automatically
Nintendo says the game will download and install automatically when the console is connected to the internet and Automatic Software Updates is enabled. Find that option under System Settings → System. If you want to initiate an update yourself, use the HOME Menu steps above.
What an update means for online play and save data
- Online features require the update. Nintendo says you must install it to use Splatoon 3’s internet features. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is also required for online features.
- Players need matching versions. Nintendo Support says, “All players must be using the same version of the software to play together.” If you cannot join friends, check that each player has updated to the same version.
- Your save data remains available. Nintendo Support says, “Save data will still be available for use after downloading the update.” Replay data from previous versions, however, is not compatible with the newest version.
Latest Splatoon 3 version
Nintendo’s US English support page lists Ver. 11.3.0, released August 19, 2026. Other regional Nintendo pages list August 20, 2026, so the date is not necessarily the same worldwide. Check Nintendo Support for your region for the latest version and release date.
