Where Winds Meet launched on November 14, 2025, for Steam, Epic Games Store, the official PC launcher, and PlayStation 5, with cross-play and cross-progression supported across the listed platforms. NetEase’s launch announcement confirms the supported distribution channels.

Check whether a new Where Winds Meet update is available
Before troubleshooting, check the game’s official news index for a patch announcement. The official index lists Version 1.7 Patch Notes dated June 5, 2026, a Version 1.7 Update Overview dated June 9, 2026, and a Version 1.8 Dev Q&A dated June 23, 2026. That index does not, by itself, confirm that Version 1.8 is deployed. Do not assume a developer Q&A is a release announcement. Check the official news index for a current patch-note announcement.
Steam
Install an available update
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Select Where Winds Meet.
- Choose Update when it appears on the game tile or game page.
- Wait for both the download and installation to finish before launching.
If Steam shows Play and no download is queued, Steam is not currently presenting an available update for that installation. A pending patch may appear after restarting Steam.

Verify the installation if an update is missing or the game will not launch
- In Steam → Library, right-click Where Winds Meet.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files. This is the current tab name; older guides may call it Local Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
Steam may discover damaged or incomplete files, repair them, and then present an update. Verification can also help when the game refuses to launch, although player reports about this behavior are not publisher-confirmed. Steam documents the verification process in its official support instructions.
Why a Steam update can be much larger than expected
A patch can spend a long time in Unpacking after the download appears complete. This often involves rebuilding or replacing large packed archives, so the disk operation may be far larger than the gameplay changes. A large download does not automatically mean that the entire game was intentionally downloaded again; Steam may be patching large archives, verifying files, or recovering from incomplete local data.
Keep sufficient free space available. The Steam listing specifies 130 GB minimum and 200 GB recommended, and recommends an SSD. Patch installation can need additional temporary working space beyond the displayed download size. See the current Steam system-storage listing.
Epic Games Store
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find Where Winds Meet.
- Select Update when the game tile displays it.
- Wait until the process finishes and the tile returns to Launch or Play.
Steam, Epic Games Store, and the official PC launcher are separate PC distributions. Launching one launcher does not update an installation made through another. Use the same launcher through which the game was installed.

If Epic does not show an update, close and reopen the launcher and check again. A secondary troubleshooting report says that some launch failures were resolved by reopening Epic Games Launcher with administrator privileges, but this is not a guaranteed or officially documented requirement. The available sources do not establish a current, title-specific Epic repair-menu path, so do not apply Steam’s Verify integrity of game files instructions to Epic.
Official PC launcher
The official launcher is one of the supported PC distribution channels. Its exact current update button, repair command, and version-display labels are not established by the available official material. Open the launcher used to install the game and follow the update prompt it displays; do not assume it uses labels such as Check for Updates, Repair, or Verify Files.

Patch size can vary with the launcher’s files, the particular update, and the state of the local installation.
PlayStation 5
Check for and install an update
- From the PS5 Home screen, highlight Where Winds Meet.
- Press the controller’s Options button.
- Select Check for Update.
- If an update exists, allow the PS5 to download and install it.
If no update is available, the console reports that the game is current. Automatic updates can help, but they do not make a manual check unnecessary.

Wait until all download and installation activity has completed before launching. A PS5 game can appear downloadable or launchable while additional update data is still being installed.
If “Downloading an update file” is stuck
Players have reported an apparently empty or stalled Downloading an update file screen, particularly around launch-day or pre-download updates. First allow time for the console to process the update, then retry the download or restart the PS5 and check again. Reported update sizes can also be very large—including a player-reported 62.70 GB download—without proving that the entire game has been replaced.
As a last resort, a secondary troubleshooting guide recommends deleting and reinstalling the game:
- Highlight Where Winds Meet on the PS5 Home screen.
- Press Options and select Delete.
- Reinstall it from Game Library or the PlayStation Store.
Reinstallation is not an official Where Winds Meet repair procedure and should be reserved for an update that remains unusable after normal retries. Make sure you understand the local-data implications before deleting the installation.

GeForce NOW
GeForce NOW does not update a local Windows or PS5 installation. The game runs on NVIDIA infrastructure, and the available build depends on the relevant store version and the cloud instance NVIDIA has made available.
After a Where Winds Meet patch releases, GeForce NOW may temporarily show the title as unavailable, show it as still patching, or launch a session whose store launcher needs to update the cloud copy. A store release does not guarantee immediate availability of the new build on GeForce NOW.
Do not use Settings → Streaming Quality in the NVIDIA app to update the game. NVIDIA’s documented path controls streaming resolution, bitrate, frame rate, and related streaming behavior; it does not install game patches. See NVIDIA’s Streaming Quality documentation.
Users have reported cloud sessions requesting very large updates, including one report of a 103 GB update, followed by a crash, while other reports describe cloud-side patching lasting hours or as long as two days. These are user reports rather than NVIDIA service-level guarantees. If the game is unavailable or still patching, the practical fix is to wait for NVIDIA’s cloud-side build to become ready and try again later rather than repeatedly downloading files to your own device.

Do updates transfer your progress between platforms?
No. Installing the same game update does not automatically merge separate characters or save data. Cross-progression requires the appropriate accounts to be linked.
At the title screen, select User Center → Link Account. From inside the game, use Settings → Other → User Center → Link Account. To bring an existing character and progress to another platform, link the account before creating a new character on that platform. Read the official cross-platform account instructions.

If both accounts already contain an in-game character, the normal linking flow cannot complete; NetEase directs players to customer support. Accounts also cannot be manually unlinked after linking, so support must handle an unlink request.
