The full route requires 9 Titanite Shards, 9 Large Titanite Shards, 7 Titanite Chunks, and 1 Titanite Slab.
Upgrade a standard weapon from +0 to +15
- Reinforce +0 to +5: Use 9 Titanite Shards.
- Ascend +5 to +6: Give the Large Ember to Andre of Astora, then use his Modify Equipment option to ascend the weapon.
- Reinforce +6 to +10: Use 9 Large Titanite Shards.
- Ascend +10 to +11: Give the Very Large Ember to Andre and ascend the weapon through Modify Equipment.
- Reinforce +11 to +14: Use 7 Titanite Chunks.
- Reinforce +14 to +15: Use 1 Titanite Slab.
Those are the material totals for the complete standard path. The ascensions at +5 and +10 are separate from ordinary reinforcement: the embers unlock the transitions, while the listed titanite materials pay for reinforcement.

Where to find the embers
Large Ember: Depths
The Large Ember is in a chest in the Depths, near the first Butcher area. Bring it to Andre in the Undead Parish to unlock the standard weapon’s +5 to +6 ascension. Large Ember location and details.
Very Large Ember: New Londo Ruins
The Very Large Ember is in New Londo Ruins, in an area accessible after draining the water. The route to the chest follows a staircase and perimeter path in the first building area. Give it to Andre to unlock the +10 to +11 ascension. Very Large Ember location and details.

Which blacksmith can perform each step?
Andre is required for the two ember-based ascensions. Ordinary reinforcement between those breakpoints can be done by a blacksmith or at a bonfire with the Weapon Smithbox. Once the standard path is unlocked, the final +14 to +15 reinforcement does not require Andre specifically. Dark Souls weapon upgrade paths.

This route applies to the standard upgrade path; it does not mean every weapon can reach standard +15. Weapons tied to unique or other special paths, as well as weapons already converted to another path, may not follow these steps. Check the weapon’s current path and available upgrade options before using rare materials. The Very Large Ember’s in-game description says it enables ascension for a +10 standard weapon and reinforcement to +15. Very Large Ember reference.
