To upgrade a weapon in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, speak to a technician, open the upgrade menu, select the weapon, and purchase an available upgrade. Some upgrades are locked until you find their blueprint in the Zone. Repairs are a separate action in the same menu.
How to upgrade a weapon
- Find a technician. Technicians have a special marker on the map. They handle equipment upgrades and repairs, as described in GSC Game World’s NPC interaction instructions.
- Start a conversation and open the upgrade menu. Choose the option to work with your equipment.
- Select the weapon. Review the upgrade icons and their descriptions to see which options are available and what they do.
- Choose and purchase an upgrade. Confirm the selection in the menu. Some upgrades can be purchased immediately; others require a blueprint found in the Zone.
GSC describes a technician as “A technician is your equipment repairman” and notes that technicians can improve equipment, including making weapons more accurate. The menu’s own description is the practical guide to each specific upgrade.

Why an upgrade may be unavailable
- You have not found its blueprint. Some upgrades are blueprint-locked. The official instructions establish that blueprints are found in the Zone, but do not give universal locations; check your map and continue exploring rather than assuming the option is bugged.
- The option is not offered for that weapon. Upgrade availability varies by weapon and game version. Inspect the icons shown for the selected weapon instead of relying on a list from an older patch.
- A patch changed the option or exposed a bug. Check current patch notes if an upgrade that should be available is missing or behaving incorrectly. Official announcements include later fixes for specific upgrade issues, such as a Clapper shotgun upgrade problem: GSC’s Steam announcements.
Choosing which upgrade to buy
There is no single best upgrade for every weapon. Compare the effect stated in the menu with the weapon’s role and how you use it. If you want more accurate shots, prioritize an option whose description supports that goal. If you prefer a particular sight or scope, choose among the options available for that weapon and your loadout. Read any listed trade-off before spending coupons; do not assume an upgrade improves every stat.
Update 2.0, dated September 1, 2026, added four weapons—Arev, GP3A, SKP, and Fora-230—and expanded scope options with a new x3 scope for Western-bloc weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern ones. It also removed the Cheek Pad upgrade for the Trophy rifle. These changes illustrate why weapon-specific advice can become outdated; consult the current menu and the Update 2.0 notes for that update’s changes.

How to repair a weapon instead
Repairs and upgrades are separate actions. In the technician’s upgrade menu, select the item and use the repair button to repair it. Buying an upgrade does not substitute for repairing the weapon, and repairing it does not purchase an upgrade.

Patch 1.5, released June 25, 2025, introduced an unlockable “Fix all” button in the technician menu for all equipped gear. Whether it is available depends on the player’s current game and unlock state; it is not required for the individual repair procedure. Patch 1.5 also changed ammunition and weapon balance, so older weapon-specific recommendations may no longer apply. See the Patch 1.5 notes.
Rank #2
GSC’s Update 2.0 announcement reported over 500 bug fixes across the update; that figure is not a count of weapon-upgrade fixes. Later 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 announcements also show continued patch activity, but do not establish a general change to the technician purchase process.
