To put a custom image on a Roblox object, add a Decal to a Part or union in Roblox Studio, choose the face it should cover, and set its ColorMapContent to an uploaded image. A Decal stretches to fit one face; use a Texture when you want a pattern to repeat.
Apply a decal to a Part or union

Open your place in Roblox Studio. In Explorer, select the Part or union you want to decorate.

Add a Decal object as a child of that Part or union. You can add a Texture instead if you need a repeating pattern.

Select the Decal and, in Properties, set Face to the surface you want: Top, Bottom, Front, Back, Left, or Right. Studio’s orientation indicator can help you identify the part’s front and top.

Set ColorMapContent to an image you have uploaded or enter the image’s asset ID. Roblox assigns imported images unique IDs, commonly referenced in the form
rbxassetid://[ID]. -
Check the result on the selected face. If needed, adjust Color3 to tint the image or Transparency to make it less visible.
Roblox describes a Decal as “an image that stretches to fit the area of a part or union’s surface.” See the Textures and decals guide and Decal engine reference.

Decal or Texture: which should you use?
| What you want | Use | Why |

| A single logo, sign, label, or graphic on one face | Decal | It stretches the image to fit that face. |
| A pattern that repeats across a surface | Texture | It repeats horizontally and vertically, with controls for tile size and offset. |

Upload an image and use its asset ID
Import an image through Studio, then select it for the Decal’s ColorMapContent or reference its asset ID. Roblox cloud assets have unique IDs, commonly written as rbxassetid://[ID]. The available file formats and size rules depend on the upload route:

Separately uploaded basic and advanced textures: Roblox lists PNG, JPG, TGA, and BMP, with a maximum resolution of 4096×4096 pixels in its texture specifications.

Assets API Decal/Image upload: Roblox lists PNG, JPEG, BMP, and TGA and requires an image smaller than 8000×8000 pixels in its Assets API usage guide.

These are pathway-specific requirements, not one universal image limit. Use the rules for the upload method you choose.

Check asset access and moderation
Images uploaded by a user or group are private by default. To distribute an asset broadly, Roblox identifies Creator Store distribution as the route for making an asset ID broadly available. If you use an image across places or groups, check its ownership and permissions instead of assuming that the ID is usable everywhere. Roblox explains access and asset handling in its Assets documentation.
Uploaded images must follow Roblox’s Community Rules and Terms of Use and pass moderation before they can be visible and usable in a published game. Roblox says asset moderation generally happens within a few hours, but this is not a guaranteed processing time. An asset still pending moderation when a game is published is not visible or interactive to players. The separate Marketplace moderation page says Marketplace item review can take up to 24 hours; that timing concerns Marketplace submissions, not a guaranteed timeline for ordinary Studio image imports. The image is on the wrong side: Change the Decal’s Face property. Use Studio’s orientation indicator to identify the part’s front and top.

The image does not appear in a published place: Check whether moderation is still pending and whether the asset’s privacy settings and permissions allow the place to use it.

The graphic repeats, but you want one image: Replace the Texture with a Decal.

You want a repeatable pattern or need to change tile size: Use a Texture and adjust StudsPerTileU and StudsPerTileV.

The image looks tinted or faded: Check Color3 and Transparency. White is the default tint and 0 is the default transparency; transparency ranges from 0 (visible) to 1 (invisible). Color3 tints the image rather than freely recoloring every part of its source artwork. See the Decal reference.

You are applying an image to a mesh or building an interface: A MeshPart’s TextureContent workflow or a SurfaceGui may suit the job better than a Decal on a BasePart face.
